Investigators say DNA analysis confirms the remains found in Mount Cobb, Pennsylvania are in fact those of a missing aspiring dancer from Texas.  Authorities say Laura Garza, 25, vanished from a Brooklyn nightclub with a registered sex offender.  Her body was found earlier this month.  Although she has been positively identified, we are waiting to learn the official cause of death in this case.  We will also learn if Laura was killed in New York, or in the rural area of Pennsylvania.

Investigators say Michael Mele is not charged in this case at this time, although he was the man seen leaving the Marquee club with Laura 16 months ago.  Reports indicate Mele’s body had scratches and a possible bite mark after the attack, and patches of carpet were missing out of his apartment.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Laura’s family and friends, and hoping her killer will be brought to justice soon.

Rachel Louise Cooke was home for Christmas break from college when she vanished without a trace.  The FBI says Rachel was last seen on January 10, 2002 jogging in her parents’ neighborhood.  Investigators say she had plans to run about three or four miles through her parents’ Georgetown, Texas subdivision.  She left their home around 11:30 a.m. Rachel’s family says she is an accomplished cross-country runner, and usually does the same jog every morning. She was last seen wearing a green sports top, grey shorts, Asics shoes, and was carrying a yellow walkman. This case has been a mystery for nearly eight years now, but her family isn’t giving up hope.  They created a website chocked full of information on her case, and events they get involved with to keep their daughter’s name in the spotlight.  You can visit the site and download fliers to post around your own community. nascar082_300

Investigators still searching landfill

Investigators in San Antonio, Texas are still searching a landfill for baby Gabriel Johnson.  They recently announced that the search for Gabriel is not only a missing persons investigation, but is also a homicide investigation. Investigators are digging through nearly 45 feet of garbage in search of baby Gabriel.  Officials estimate the task will take a total of six days.

Gabriel was last seen with his mother, Elizabeth Johnson,  on or near December 18, 2009. Police say Johnson missed a December 28, 2009 custody hearing, and a felony warrant was issued for her arrest for custodial interference.  Johnson’s custody rights were revoked, and Gabriel’s father, Logan McQueary, was awarded full custody.

Early in the case, I spoke with Logan, and it is apparent that this father’s heart is breaking.  Last week, over text message, Logan told me he was retracing Elizabeth’s steps, and was in Arizona posting fliers of his missing son.  All Logan wants is to find his child alive, but it is hard for him to remain positive when he has been told that Gabriel is dead.

Aja Dotson MISSING

Aja Dotson MISSING

It’s been more than a week since Aja Johnson was abducted and her mother Tonya was found beaten to death in an RV.  Since then investigators in Oklahoma issued a warrant for Lester Hobbs arrest charging him with first degree murder and kidnapping.  Hobbs is a convicted felon, and according to court documents was not supposed to have any contact with Aja.  Police say they’ve received leads about possible sightings of Hobbs, Aja and the car he may be driving, but so far nothing has panned out.  The Oklahoma Bureau of Investigations and the United States Marshal service put out a $20,000 reward, hoping someone will bring them the information they need to find this child.

FAMILY OF 5 MURDERED

Monday, January 18th, 2010
suspect_pic
Five people were found murdered in a small Buckhorn community just outside Bellville, Texas yesterday. Police told me earlier they have Maron Thomas, 20, in custody and at this point they believe he is the only one responsible for this horrendous crime. George Washington, 69, his wife, Debra Washington, 54, Kiana Shree Phearse, 25, and Khalilah Masse-Chamers, 3, were all found shot to death inside their home on a large estate property. Just behind the residence, investigators found a fifth victim who was identified today as Cedric Thomas, 19.

Maron Thomas was arrested before the bodies were found when he was allegedly naked breaking into a car, and attempting to break into a home at a nearby property. Capital murder charges may be brought down against Thomas after the District Attorney has a chance to review the preliminary report on this case.

I spoke with the homeowner of the home where the bodies were found. I was told the Washington’s have rented the home for about three years, they were a very kind family who always paid on time. Investigators believe all the victims are related, but are waiting on autopsy results to release the connection to one another.  At this time, Maron Thomas, pictured above, is the only person of interest.

PRISON GUARD STILL WANTED FOR DOUBLE MURDER

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010
Albert James Turner WANTED

Albert James Turner WANTED

Just after midnight on December 27, 2009, Lt. Colin Davidson from the Rosenberg Police  told me his dispatch received a 9-1-1 family violence call.  Patrol officers responded to the residence and found a bloody scene. Two women, 66-year-old Betty Jo Frank, and 39-year-old Keitha Frank Turner bleeding, it appeared the women were stabbed multiple times.  Sadly, Betty Jo Frank was pronounced dead at the scene, and her daughter, Keitha Frank Turner was transported to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.  Betty Jo Frank and her husband, Dr. Frank founded the Church of Living Waters in Rosenberg, Texas more than 32 years ago.  Betty Jo was very active counseling members of the church, teaching children, and she was an administrator of the school.  Keitha was the principal of that school where she oversaw the children, and attended services.  Betty and Keitha’s were buried on New Year’s Eve.

Family was home at the time, including Keitha and Albert Turner’s children.  It was determined the man allegedly responsible for this attack is in fact Albert Turner, a Texas Department of Corrections prison guard who fled the scene.  There are active murder warrants for his arrest, and investigators believe he may have fled to Orlando, Florida where he is known to have family.  Police say Turner fled the scene in a maroon Honda which since has been recovered just outside Atlanta in the Chattahoochee River.  Turner could be in possession of TDC uniforms, and in a few reports, it says he was wearing a uniform at the time of the murder.  Police cannot confirm that at this point.  If you have any information, please contact CRIMESTOPPERS:  (281) 342-TIPS – There is a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.  This man is considered armed and dangerous.

Son hires friend to kill mom

Minhas and his beautiful mom
Minhas and his beautiful mom

Yesterday I covered a story on CNN Prime News that was quite disturbing to say the least.  It doesn’t necessarily have a “call to action,” but it made me think about how parents control their children, how I was raised, and how something like this could go so wrong.

Here is the background:  Investigators tell me Danish Minahs, 17, hired his classmate, Nur Mohamed, 18, to kill his mother Tabassum Khan.  The 43-year-old mother was a single parent to Minhas, and not only did she give him a great home, but she often worked around the clock so he had everything he wanted in life.  This is the exact same situation I grew up in.  Tabassum bought her son a new car, and she drove the old one, she always made sure he had the best clothes, and the latest gadgets – but her only downside, according to her son, is that she was too strict.  Minhas told cops his mother would give him chores, a curfew, and make him help with errands.  Do you really think that is strict??

ENDANGERED MISSING BABY

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

UPDATE: On January 5, 2010, the car belonging to Elizabeth Johnson, Gabriel’s mom, was found in Texas.  Although the vehicle was located, investigators say there was no sign of Gabriel.  The baby was last seen with his mother in San Antonio, Texas between the dates of December 22 – 26, 2009.

Gabriel Johnson missing
Gabriel Johnson missing

BACKGROUND: Gabriel Johnson is only 8-months-old, and has been missing since December 18, 2009.  He was last seen with his mother Elizabeth Johnson.  Police say Johnson missed a custody hearing scheduled on December 28, 2009, and a felony warrant was issued for her arrest for custodial interference.  Johnsons custody rights were revoked, and the Gabriel’s father, Logan McQueary, was awarded full custody.  I spoke with Logan yesterday, and this father’s heart is breaking.  All he wants is to find his child alive, but it is hard for him to remain positive when he was told that his son was dead.  On December 27, 2009, Logan says Johnson sent him a text message saying she killed the baby, and in a phone conversation she allegedly told Logan, “I suffocated him (Gabriel) until he turned blue, put him in a diaper bag, and put him in a dumpster.”  Although this information is quite troubling, investigators have reason to believe Gabriel could still be alive, and the child may have been given to a couple.  Authorities do not want to say why they believe this to be true, but they are working off information that the child is somewhere and needs to be found.

Last week, Elizabeth Johnson was found in Miami, FL, but her car was missing.  Johnson arrested and waived extradition back to Arizona.  She is not cooperating with authorities and will not give up information on Gabriel’s whereabouts.  We need to find this child, if you have any information, please help Logan find his son and call Tempe Police:  (480) 350-8311 or Silent Witness at (480) 948-6377 with any information

Father uses court to abduct child

Jean Paul Missing

Jean Paul Missing

Investigators say Jean Paul Lacombe was abducted by his non-custodial father, Jean Philippe Lacombe, on October 15, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas.  Lacombe allegedly gave the court invalid Mexican Documents to overturn the case, and the judge gave him custody.  Lacombe was supposed to show back up for a court hearing on Monday, October 19, 2009, but instead he fled with his son.

HISTORY OF CUSTODY

Cliff Herberg with the Bexar District Attorney’s office in Texas says there are 1,400 pages pertaining to this case that have accumulated over the years in Mexican court.  He has not had a chance to review every single page, but Mr. Herberg was able to provide a timeline and background of custody between the parents.

 2003:  Divorce proceedings began

2004:  Divorce is finalized, and both parties agree Jean Paul will live with his father, and his mother will have “extended access” meaning she would still see her son on a daily basis by picking him up from school, taking him home, eating dinner with him.

I spoke with Jean Paul’s mother Berenice Diaz early on, and she says her son likes to go by the name Paul only.  He loves to play soccer, and he’s a very good student in school.  When Paul grows up, he wants to be a pastry chef.  Paul speaks English, Spanish and French, and was last seen with his father, Jean Paul Lacombe. Prior to October, it had been nearly two years since Paul last saw his father.  Berenice says her son did not want to talk  to or see his father, and he told her he would let her know when he was ready.
