Today friends and family are rounding out the final moments of the 72 hour media blitz started Monday to find Susan. The goal of the blitz was to get as much attention and coverage for Susan Powell who went missing on December 7, 2009 from her home in Utah. I spoke with investigators, and they feel the push is working – they have in fact received new leads on this case.
The effort targeted facebook, twitter, and youtube to get the word out about this missing mom. Right now, there are nearly 34,000 members of the “Friends and Family of Susan Powell” facebook page. That’s more than double the amount that was listed when this effort began on Monday morning.
Josh Powell, Susan’s husband, is not a suspect at this time, but he is a person of interest. Although Josh is not considered a suspect, I am also told that he is not cooperating with the investigation at all, and will not answer specifics about his wife’s disappearance. In fact, he left Utah, and has been spending time with his family in Washington state. There are reports he may try to move his family there.

Susan Powell missing
I just got off the phone with Assistant Police Chief Black and he confirms to me Josh Powell rented a car in Salt Lake city two evenings after his wife went missing, and drove for hundreds of miles. Police do confirm there is a period of time they cannot account for Josh, or his whereabouts. So far, five search warrants have been executed on this case, three to make entry into the Powell family home, one for the family mini-van, and one for Josh Powell’s DNA. An anonymous donor just came forward and is offering a $10,000 reward for information to find Susan.

Susan Powell Missing
Last night, in the pouring rain, Josh Powell who is considered a person of interest in his wife Susan Powell’s disappearance attended a prayer vigil with his 4-year-old child. About 60 friends and family were in attendance outside a church in Puyallup, Washington. Reports say he spoke to his wife’s sister briefly, and gave her a hug, and agreed to speak with her later.
BACKGROUND: Police would like to question Josh Powell again, and since naming him a person of interest, they have requested all news footage pertaining to Josh Powell, specifically the interviews he gave with local stations after his wife went missing. Authorities sent subpoenas on Friday to all Salt Lake City television stations, but will not say what they are hoping to find in the interviews. Cops are looking to collect as much physical evidence as possible, and to process what they gather through the crime lab. Assistant Chief Black says Josh Powell is considered a person of interest, and earlier this week, with his attorney, Josh did submit to a DNA sample. Assistant Chief Black told me Josh answered a few general questions about his wife, but he would not answer any detailed questions about Susan (i.e. any enemies she may have had, answers about their personal relationship, etc). Josh’s position to the media is that he wants to find his wife, and investigators working the case want to find her too, but Assistant Chief Black says without answers to many questions they have for Josh, and having a working partnership with him, “it really hinders finding her in a timely manner.”

Susan Powell Missing
A candlelight vigil is scheduled tonight for missing mom Susan Powell. Her family, friends, and anyone from the public is welcome to attend the vigil held at the Ridgecrest building in Puyallup, Washington at 7 p.m. Tomorrow marks the two week anniversary since Susan Powell went missing. I cannot help to take notice just how much this case reminds me of two mom’s who are still missing in Illinois, and both of their husbands are “persons of interest.” Lisa Stebic went missing on April 30, 2007 from Plainfield, Illinois. She worked in a local elementary school, and her husband was the last person to see her. Lisa’s family has done an amazing job at keeping her story and picture in the public. Her husband Craig Stebic is named a “person of interest” in her disappearance. Stacy Peterson was only 23-years-old went she went missing on October 28, 2007. Her husband, Drew Peterson, who was a police officer at the time, and claims he heard from his wife last the Sunday before she went missing around 9 p.m. Since that time, Drew Peterson has been named a “person of interest” in her disappearance as well. Drew Peterton’s third wife, Kathleen Savio, died in 2004. Soon after Stacy disappeared, Kathleen’s body was exhumed from the ground, and her initial death ruling was changed from “accidental” to “homicide.” Lisa and Stacy are still missing, just like Susan. Although Susan’s husband, Josh Powell, is considered a “person of interest” – I hope her case doesn’t grow cold like the other two mom’s. Please keep in mind, a “person of interest” can mean that a person could graduate to becoming a suspect, or ruled out completely as an investigation moves forward. I hope and pray all three families are giving answers to where their loved one may be.

Investigators are trying to piece together more on Susan Powell’s disappearance, and they have conducted a second search of the Powell residence. Cops are looking to collect more physical evidence, and to process what they gather through the crime lab.
Assistant Chief Black says there’s enough circumstantial evidence to indicate that this is uncharacteristic of Susan to just disappear, and they are exploring the possibility that foul play could be involved. They don’t want to treat this case early on that Susan just up and walked away, they want to take all accounts into play in case this turns into a criminal investigation in the end.

- Susan Powell Missing
I just spoke to Assistant Police Chief Black, and he says detectives are canvassing Susan’s neighborhood all day. They are on the ground searching for friends or neighbors who may have information to help them learn more about her disappearance. Assistant Chief Black says Josh Powell was in their office yesterday, with his attorney, and he did submit to a DNA sample. Josh answered a few general questions, but he would not answer questions about anything that could have happened Susan (i.e. any enemies she may have had, answers about their personal relationship, etc). Josh’s position to the media is that he wants to find his wife, and investigators working the case want to find her too, but Assistant Chief Black says without answers to many questions they have for Josh, and having a working partnership with him, “it really hinders finding her in a timely manner.”

SUSAN POWELL MISSING
Earlier this afternoon, I spoke to West Valley City Assistant Police Chief Black, and he went into the detail the timeline surrounding Susan’s disappearance. So far, this is what we have since Susan was last seen on evening of December 6th into the early morning hours of December 7, 2009.
Sunday, December 6, 2009: According to the Assistant Chief, Susan went to bed, and was last seen around 12:30 a.m. sleeping. Her husband, Joshua Powell told investigators he took his children, ages 2 and 4, camping after his wife went to sleep. There was snow on the ground, and it was extremely cold. Susan and Josh were both due at work first thing in the morning.
Monday, December 7, 2009: Authorities say Susan and Josh do not show up for work, and Susan’s family calls police. At that point, investigators made entry into their home to check their welfare. When investigators went inside the house, they realized no one was there. Assistant Chief Black says the officers backed out, and obtained a search warrant to come back in.

SUSAN POWELL MISSING
West Valley City police say Susan Powell was last seen on Sunday, December 6, 2009. She did not show up for work as a stockbroker the next day, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance is mysterious. Police say her husband has offered a statement, and at this time, they do not consider him a suspect in her disappearance. Susan’s cell phone, purse, and other items were left at home. In an attempt to generate leads for Susan, let’s not forget two other missing moms who have not been located, Lisa Stebic and Stacy Peterson.
Investigators need your help, please contact police with any information.
