Police released this composite sketch of the possible gunman

Police released this composite sketch of the possible gunman

Virginia Tech police responded quickly Thursday to reports from three teens who say they saw a man with a gun on campus.  Police say a small group of teens attending a summer camp thought they saw a man with a handgun just after 9 a.m. on Thursday.  Officials at the university immediately sent alerts through postings, e-mails and text messages.  You can view a detailed list of those postings at the VA Tech website.

Virginia Tech Spokesperson Larry Hincker told ABC News, “In this day and age, we don’t think we had any other choice than to issue a campus alert.”  Classes were closed and the campus was shut down until the lockdown was lifted late afternoon.

Investigators say the possible gunman stands 6-feet tall and was wearing a blue and white striped shirt, gray shorts and brown sandals.  The alleged suspect may have shielded the gun with some sort of cloth.

If you have any information, please contact Virginia Tech Police: 540-231-6411

TATTOOED CONFESSION LEADS TO MURDER CONVICTION

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011
Anthony Garcia (mugshot)

Anthony Garcia (mugshot)

A tattoo displaying a detailed murder scene led one L.A. County Sheriff detective to the jail cell of the suspect.  It is common practice for Investigator Kevin Lloyd to review photos of tattooed gang members and when Anthony Garcia’s chest came across his desk, the scene caught the veteran detectives eye.

Investigator Lloyd made the discovery in 2008 after Garcia’s photo was snapped for a minor traffic violation.  Lloyd is familiar with the scene on his skin because it was one of his patrol areas and the cold case was always lingering on his mind.  John Jaurez, 23, was gunned down in 2004 and the entire crime scene is mapped out on Garcia’s chest – even down to the Christmas lights hanging outside.

With all the stars aligning and stellar detective work, justice is brought to the table for another innocent victim.

AMY BISHOP’S BIZARRE PAST COMES BACK TO HAUNT HER

Thursday, June 17th, 2010
Amy Bishop mugshot
Amy Bishop mugshot

Mass chaos erupts on a college campus as a gunman opens fire.  Professors and students are scrambling, bystanders are taking cover and no one knows where the bullets will land.  This was the scene on February 12, 2010 at the University of Alabama Huntsville campus.  One of their professors allegedly brought a gun to the school and started taking shots.  Investigators learned the lone gunman was actually a Harvard University graduate and one of their own.

Her name is Amy Bishop.

I can’t recall in recent history a woman opening fire on a campus, much less a professor.   I spoke with Sgt. Mark Roberts from the Huntsville Police Department and he told me there was a faculty meeting, and just before 4 p.m. gunfire erupted inside the conference room.  Police were called, and responded to the building within minutes.  They didn’t know at the time where the alleged shooter, Amy Bishop was hiding, but they eventually found her outside the building and took her into custody.  Sgt. Roberts says investigators on the scene did not immediately find the 9 mm gun that was used, but later that night authorities located the weapon on the 2nd floor bathroom inside a garbage can.  Amy Bishop did not have a permit for the gun.  Sadly, three professors died in the deadly incident, and three others were injured.

7 people shot, one dead

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

Reading, Pennsylvania…

The lead investigator on this case is finally going home after a long day. He’s been up since 3:30 a.m. when he was called to piece together the clues to a shooting. He says seven people were shot, and one person was killed in the 500 block of Schuylkill Avenue in Reading. The shooting occurred in a place described as an illegal club. A fight broke out inside, shots were fired, and tragedy took over. Some of the victims transported to the hospital are facing life-threatening injuries. As investigators go home to their families tonight, they know they have their work cut out for them tomorrow morning. The detectives will be back on the job early to keep working the case, and following up with important leads. Hopefully arrests will be made soon.  I’ll bring you more information as it becomes available.
