Now the public can go beyond the poster when searching for fugitives and helping the FBI.  With a new site redesign and more than 600 active cases to profile, the public can use search tools to narrow their searches.

If you visit FBI.GOV you can now type in things like location, gender, crime, reward and more specific information.  Each profile links to an old fashion poster you can still print and includes PDFs you can share.

The FBI says the profiles are organized in three sections:

•       Wanted fugitives

•       Missing persons

•       Seeking information

The FBI says to date 56 cases have been solved as a direct result of website publicity, including the work the Public Affairs unit does with social networking and other avenues to profile fugitives and missing persons.

Zachary Green, 33, has been missing since Jan. 2., and there is an active search to find him.   Kingston Police and Ulster County Sheriff’s deputies have been searching for the chef who lives with his parents in New York. Authorities say Zachary was last seen at a restaurant two hours north of New York City.  He reportedly tried to grab a bite to eat, but the establishment was closed.

Police later found Zachary’s car in the same area of the restaurant.  There did not appear to be signs of a struggle, and police say his wallet and cell phone were left behind.  Zachary’s dad filed an official missing persons report last week and there is currently a $10,000 reward to find him.  Zachary’s family said he does not have a history of mental illness or disappearing.

SEARCH TODAY IN NY FOR JALIEK RAINWALKER

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Jaliek Rainwalker MISSING

Jaliek Rainwalker MISSING

It’s been three years since Jaliek Rainwalker disappeared from his home in Greenwich, NY and today a search for the 12-year-old will resume.  Divers will descend on an area of the Battenkill River in Middle Falls that they had not previously been able to search.  This is the first the time this portion of the body of water has been deemed safe, and it is possibly an area Jaliek’s father mentioned when he was working with authorities.
The last 34 months have been a roller coaster ride for investigators as they have conducted numerous searches, followed hundreds of leads and have tried to work with Jaliek’s adopted parents.  Reportedly, police say his mother and father are no longer cooperating with the investigation, Jaliek has not been seen, and they fear the worst.  Barbara Reeley, Jaliek’s adopted grandmother, has not given up hope.  She is well known by the community and is doing everything she can to help investigators find her grandson.  Reeley was even charged with burglary when she allegedly broke into her daughter’s home to look for evidence in this case.  Police say she uncovered the yellow pullover fleece Jaliek was last seen wearing, but still no one has been charged with any crimes in this case.In March 2010, investigators released a new age enhanced photo of what Jaliek would look like today, hoping the image and the attention would jog the memories of those who may have information.

CHILD DISAPPEARS AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Monday, June 7th, 2010
Kyron Harman Missing

Kyron Harman Missing

An entire weekend has passed since 7-year-old Kyron Horman was last seen.  Investigators say the child went missing at his elementary school on Friday, June 4, 2010. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office was immediately contacted and a search throughout the Portland area ensued. Over the weekend, the search was upgraded to the Major Crimes Team, and now the FBI is involved. This move allows more resources to go toward finding Kyron.

Authorities say Kyron’s step-mother told them she saw him walking down the hallway inside the Skyline Elementary School towards his classroom. About 300 students attend K-8 classes at the school. Teachers and staff say Kyron never made it into his class.  There are many questions that need to be answered, and investigators need your leads.

Please contact Multnomah County Sheriff’s non-emergency line at 503-261-2847 with any information.

Josh Powell attends wife’s vigil

Monday, December 21st, 2009
Susan Powell Missing

Susan Powell Missing

Last night, in the pouring rain, Josh Powell who is considered a person of interest in his wife Susan Powell’s disappearance attended a prayer vigil with his 4-year-old child.  About 60 friends and family were in attendance outside a church in Puyallup, Washington.  Reports say he spoke to his wife’s sister briefly, and gave her a hug, and agreed to speak with her later.

BACKGROUND: Police would like to question Josh Powell again, and since naming him a person of interest, they have requested all news footage pertaining to Josh Powell, specifically the interviews he gave with local stations after his wife went missing.  Authorities sent subpoenas on Friday to all Salt Lake City television stations, but will not say what they are hoping to find in the interviews.  Cops are looking to collect as much physical evidence as possible, and to process what they gather through the crime lab.  Assistant Chief Black says Josh Powell is considered a person of interest, and earlier this week, with his attorney, Josh did submit to a DNA sample.  Assistant Chief Black told me Josh answered a few general questions about his wife, but he would not answer any detailed questions about Susan (i.e. any enemies she may have had, answers about their personal relationship, etc).  Josh’s position to the media is that he wants to find his wife, and investigators working the case want to find her too, but Assistant Chief Black says without answers to many questions they have for Josh, and having a working partnership with him, “it really hinders finding her in a timely manner.”

Cops search home again – SUSAN POWELL MISSING

Friday, December 18th, 2009

SUSAN POWELL0Susanpowell-ColorInvestigators are trying to piece together more on Susan Powell’s disappearance, and they have conducted a second search of the Powell residence.  Cops are looking to collect more physical evidence, and to process what they gather through the crime lab.

Assistant Chief Black says there’s enough circumstantial evidence to indicate that this is uncharacteristic of Susan to just disappear, and they are exploring the possibility that foul play could be involved.  They don’t want to treat this case early on that Susan just up and walked away, they want to take all accounts into play in case this turns into a criminal investigation in the end.
