According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, people who have legitimate access to children are some of the same individuals who are producing child pornography. It is a federal crime to have child porn in your possession. The Cyber Tiplinewas created to report these types of crimes against children. You can call the tip center with information on people who manufacture, distribute or have child pornography in their possession or if you receive images in your e-mail. If you know of children who are being recruited for these disgusting acts, please report that to the tip line as well.
It is also a federal crime to send obscene material to any child under the age of 16. Take a look at the helpful information under the Cyber Tipline to understand more about protecting the youth.

Shaniya Davis is one of those cases that comes up in conversation frequently. I am often asked how a child could allegedly be sold by her mother as a sex slave to pay off a debt. If Shaniya was never passed off to Mario McNeill like a piece of trash, she may still be alive today. Test results show Shaniya died from asphyxiation, and McNeill is charged with first degree murder and first degree rape. He is being held without bond and is currently behind bars. Shaniya’s mother, Antoniette Davis, is charged with child abuse in the form of prostitution, human trafficking, obstructing an official investigation and filing a false police report. Unfortunately, Davis is out on bond, and has been roaming free since February 21st. She is scheduled to appear in court on June 3, 2010 to face charges.
Bradley Lockhart, Shaniya’s father, is taking a proactive approach to combat child prostitution and crimes against children. This is why he created Shaniya Speaks. The organization says the goal is, “to bring voice to Child Exploitation and Sexual Crimes against Children.” Bradley will tour the country and be the voice for his murdered child. He will use his personal experience to educate the public on these types of horrific crimes against children.
You can host a TAKE 25 event right in your own community to help educate children and parents on safety. This program, offered by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children aspires to get communities across America involved and to hopefully prevent abductions. It was created in honor of National Children’s Day to encourage parents and guardians to take 25 minutes to educate their children about safety topics. The goal is to help children make better decisions in life, set limitations on what they do, and give parents and guardians the tools they need. Some of the topics covered are Internet, school, out and about, and at home safety. Take a few moments to read more about Take 25 and consider becoming a volunteer or hosting a program in your own neighborhood.
The recent murder of Shaniya Davis in North Carolina is raising the issue ofchild prostitution in the United States. For those who may not know, Shaniya’s own mother,Antoinette Davis, is charged with Human Trafficking, allegedly prostituting her own child. It is enough to make anyone sick. For the last couple of days, I’ve been doing more research into child prostitution, focusing the first part of my research to the United States specifically; then taking a look at the problem on a worldwide level.
The U.S. Department of Justice says, “it is estimated that about 293,000 American youth are currently at risk of becoming victims of commercial sexual exploitation.” The report goes on to say that “children are mainly recruited into prostitution through forced abduction, pressure from parents, or through deceptive agreements between parents and traffickers.”
I cannot understand why anyone, especially a parent, would want to do this to their child… Aren’t parents supposed to protect their children for life?
Through all of this, I would like your input. I am looking for non-profit organizations in the United States that help to protect our children from this trade. I want to highlight their great work, and add them to my resource page. Please feel free to share your thoughts and information below at the comment link.
