OCTOBER: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

october“One out of three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime,” according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.  To help with prevention, October is officially national domestic violence abuse month and there are a growing number of resources for victims.

Peace and dignity.  This is the main message of the Domestic Violence Awareness Project (DVAP).  By teaming up with organizations like the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the National Domestic Violence Hotline and the National Network to End Domestic Violence all programs are striving to build campaigns that not only address the victimization of women, but also offer voices of leadership and expertise from females who have been in violent relationships.  Through prevention and awareness, DVAP  hopes to reach millions to inform and educate all ages about all levels of domestic violence.

Susan Powell’s 29th Birthday Today Marked With Massive Balloon Release

Susan Powell Missing
Susan Powell Missing

Today is Susan Powell’s 29th birthday. Her friends and family will honor the day with a massive two state balloon release, one in Utah and the other in Washington.  Everyone from the public is welcome to attend.

Winter is approaching quickly, summer has come and gone and Susan Powell has not been found. Over the last ten months since she went missing on December 7, 2009, many bodies have been found in the desert. When her family and close friends would get word, they simply held their breath and waited.

Over the summer a couple of searches took place in the area where Susan’s husband Josh Powell says he went camping the night she disappeared. Josh is still officially a “person of interest” in this case, but investigators have not moved forward with any official charges. When Susan went missing last December Josh told investigators he took his two small children out in the middle of the night in the West Desert. Since then many searches have been executed, but unfortunately nothing has been uncovered.

Postive ID, remains are Morgan Harrington

Remembering Morgan Harrington
Remembering Morgan Harrington

It saddens me to report that the remains found on a Virginia farm yesterday are in fact those of Morgan Harrington.  I spoke to State Police officials today, and they say they are working to determine Morgan’s cause and time of death.  I spoke with the Medical Examiner’s office, and they say in normal cases an autopsy to include toxicology reports normally take 24 hours, but in this case, it could take weeks.  State police investigators were at the ME’s office today working with the pathologists as they took x-rays and gathered information.  Authorities are on the farm today conducting a grid search, and gathering as much evidence as they can.  Morgan’s body could have been on the farm for as many as 100 days.

Where is missing mom Susan Powell?

Susan Powell Missing

Susan Powell Missing

A candlelight vigil is scheduled tonight for missing mom Susan Powell.  Her family, friends, and anyone from the public is welcome to attend the vigil held at the Ridgecrest building in Puyallup, Washington at 7 p.m.  Tomorrow marks the two week anniversary since Susan Powell went missing.  I cannot help to take notice just how much this case reminds me of two mom’s who are still missing in Illinois, and both of their husbands are “persons of interest.”  Lisa Stebic went missing on April 30, 2007 from Plainfield, Illinois.  She worked in a local elementary school, and her husband was the last person to see her.  Lisa’s family has done an amazing job at keeping her story and picture in the public.  Her husband Craig Stebic is named a “person of interest” in her disappearance.  Stacy Peterson was only 23-years-old went she went missing on October 28, 2007.  Her husband, Drew Peterson, who was a police officer at the time, and claims he heard from his wife last the Sunday before she went missing around 9 p.m.  Since that time, Drew Peterson has been named a “person of interest” in her disappearance as well.  Drew Peterton’s third wife, Kathleen Savio, died in 2004.  Soon after Stacy disappeared, Kathleen’s body was exhumed from the ground, and her initial death ruling was changed from “accidental” to “homicide.”   Lisa and Stacy are still missing, just like Susan.  Although Susan’s husband, Josh Powell, is considered a “person of interest” – I hope her case doesn’t grow cold like the other two mom’s.  Please keep in mind, a “person of interest” can mean that a person could graduate to becoming a suspect, or ruled out completely as an investigation moves forward. I hope and pray all three families are giving answers to where their loved one may be.

Father uses court to abduct child

Jean Paul Missing

Jean Paul Missing

Investigators say Jean Paul Lacombe was abducted by his non-custodial father, Jean Philippe Lacombe, on October 15, 2009 in San Antonio, Texas.  Lacombe allegedly gave the court invalid Mexican Documents to overturn the case, and the judge gave him custody.  Lacombe was supposed to show back up for a court hearing on Monday, October 19, 2009, but instead he fled with his son.

HISTORY OF CUSTODY

Cliff Herberg with the Bexar District Attorney’s office in Texas says there are 1,400 pages pertaining to this case that have accumulated over the years in Mexican court.  He has not had a chance to review every single page, but Mr. Herberg was able to provide a timeline and background of custody between the parents.

 2003:  Divorce proceedings began

2004:  Divorce is finalized, and both parties agree Jean Paul will live with his father, and his mother will have “extended access” meaning she would still see her son on a daily basis by picking him up from school, taking him home, eating dinner with him.

I spoke with Jean Paul’s mother Berenice Diaz early on, and she says her son likes to go by the name Paul only.  He loves to play soccer, and he’s a very good student in school.  When Paul grows up, he wants to be a pastry chef.  Paul speaks English, Spanish and French, and was last seen with his father, Jean Paul Lacombe. Prior to October, it had been nearly two years since Paul last saw his father.  Berenice says her son did not want to talk  to or see his father, and he told her he would let her know when he was ready.
