It’s been nearly a year since a family of four vanished in California, and authorities think the McStays may have planned a trip to Mexico before they disappeared.
1) Joseph McStay, 40, his wife Summer, 43, Gianni, 4, and Joseph, 3, went missing on February 4, 2010. Authorities said they found e-mails from Joseph and Summer asking about passport information and entry into Mexico before February 4th, a clear indication that they may have planned their getaway. But the question is, why? It doesn’t appear the family had any financial or marital problems, Joseph left behind his teenage son, and their home was left in working order.
2) Who reported the family missing? Michael McStay, Joseph’s brother, reported the family missing to police 11 days after the vanished.
3) What did the family leave behind? The McStay’s family pets were left in the yard without food or water. Investigators say perishable food was left on the counter along with other personal items left in the home.
Madeline Morris has been searching for her missing son for nearly four years. Montgomery County Police say John James Morris, 37, went missing from Dickerson, Maryland on July 30, 2007. He was last seen near his home at the 2400 block of White’s Ferry Road standing at the end of the driveway.
At the time he vanished, John shared his residence with his boyfriend. Police say his vehicle and belongings were left behind and there has been no trace of him since. In a press release, Montgomery County Police say, “Extensive investigative techniques have been used during this multi-year investigation to try to gain information about what may have happened to Morris. No evidence has been developed to confirm whether or not Morris remains alive. The family believes that he would not have stayed away this long without making contact with his family. His family also believes that he would not intentionally have left and abandoned his dog. At this stage of the investigation, foul play is suspected.”
Kanika Powell’s case is still a Prince George’s County mystery….
Kanika Powell graduated from Largo High School in 1998, and enlisted in the Army two years later. She proudly served in Korea, and returned to her home in Prince George’s County after her tour. Trying to figure out the next steps in her life, Kanika decided to take on a job as a security contractor at Hopkins laboratory. She was very private about the work she was doing for the laboratory, and would sometimes travel for days at a time to handle work projects before returning home. Judy Powell, Kanika’s mom, said she always knew where her daughter was going, but her daughter was not allowed to discuss what she was doing when she got on location.
Kanika lived alone in her garden style apartment in Laurel, Maryland. On Saturday, August 22, 2008 she heard a knock at her door. Judy says Kanika told her she peeked through the hole and a man was holding up a badge claiming he was an FBI agent. Kanika wouldn’t open the door without seeing ID, and the mystery man left. She called 9-1-1 and police came to her apartment, but nothing was found. Judy says Kanika was planning to install a security system thereafter. The incident jarred her so much that she wrote this e-mail to share with her friends and family:

The town of Celebration in Florida resembles a quaint New England village, but there isn’t much to celebrate these days. The community is the brainchild of the folks at Walt Disney World and is now home to more than 11,000 residents. The citizens take pride in their community. Along with patrols from the local sheriff’s department, the citizens also hire their own separate security to comb the streets of their hometown around the clock.
The community is close knit and neighbors know when things are out of the ordinary. Things were definitely out of the ordinary last weekend. Celebration resident Matteo Giovanditto, 58, hadn’t been seen for a few days, and his neighbors went to authorities to report him missing on Sunday.
By Monday, authorities were knocking on the door of his condo, but he didn’t answer. Matteo’s black corvette wasn’t in the driveway, and it appeared he may have just left, but it wasn’t like him to leave and not tell anyone.
Who Killed Famous Hollywood Publicist Ronni Chasen?
Similar to the tales of classic Hollywood “Whodunit” mysteries, the murder of famous publicist Ronni Chasen is playing out in Tinseltown. Ronni, 64, was shot five times in the chest Tuesday while heading home from a premiere for the movie, “Burlesque.” Investigators say the horrific crime occurred in a multimillion dollar Beverly Hills neighborhood near Sunset Boulevard. Reports indicate Ronni was shot through her passenger side window as she made a left turn before slamming her black Mercedes into a pole.
Authorities are working every angle, pulling cell phone records, combing computer files and conducting interview after interview. At this point, there are no suspects. In this day and age of surveillance cameras, especially in high dollar neighborhoods, it’s quite possible clues could have been caught on tape.
Funeral services for Ronni will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary. Donations in her name can be made to Tower Cancer Research Foundation.

Rachel Louise Cooke was home for Christmas break from college when she vanished without a trace. The FBI says Rachel was last seen on January 10, 2002 jogging in her parents’ neighborhood. Investigators say she had plans to run about three or four miles through her parents’ Georgetown, Texas subdivision. She left their home around 11:30 a.m. Rachel’s family says she is an accomplished cross-country runner, and usually does the same jog every morning. She was last seen wearing a green sports top, grey shorts, Asics shoes, and was carrying a yellow walkman. This case has been a mystery for nearly eight years now, but her family isn’t giving up hope.
