MIAMI BANK HEIST: SUSPECTS WANTED, TELLER ABDUCTED FROM HOME

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Wanted by the FBI

It was a bizarre scene last week at a Bank of America in Miami, Florida.  A bank teller walked into his place of employment with what appeared to be a bomb strapped to his chest.  He told the manager that suspects broke into his home, held him and his father hostage for hours and then attached a bomb device to his chest.  The teller told authorities two suspects drove him to his bank while one suspect stayed back with his father.

The teller, who FBI agents identified as Diego Uscamayta, 25, was released late Friday after agents determined he was in fact a victim and not a part of the elaborate scheme.  Over the weekend I spoke with Judy Orihuela, spokesperson with the FBI, over e-mail and she said the suspects were seen fleeing in a red Ford Mustang.  That Mustang belonging to Uscamayta has since been located not far from the bank.  What I find interesting is that a detailed description of the suspects has yet to be released, but authorities are currently following up on leads.

ESCAPEES NABBED IN MIAMI

US MARSHALbanner

CAPTURE: U.S. Marshals say they captured the three inmates on the run in Miami, Florida.  Investigators are looking into two robberies and the disappearance of a Florida State University graduate student while the suspects were on the loose.

BACKGROUND: It’s been two weeks since three dangerous convicts escaped in Alexandria, Louisiana. Since the break out investigators say the suspects have left a trail of crime leading to Florida (detailed list below). U.S. Marshals say the inmates drummed up an elaborate plan to break out of the Avoyelles Parish jail on March 30, 2010. One of the inmates, Quentin M. Truehill, made a handmade knife and allegedly held it to the throat of a correctional officer, threatening to kill him if he didn’t open the door. Another officer was witnessing the attack tried to help, but couldn’t and was cut on the hand. The inmates escaped on foot, and the local sheriff believes they were picked up by an accomplice in a nearby parking lot. Authorities have been working around the clock to locate the criminals.

PLAYBOY MODEL MURDER

Three months later, it doesn’t appear investigators are any closer to finding out who murdered Paula Sladewski.  Police still need your tips to help solve this case.  Instead of this tragedy pulling her family together – they are reportedly tearing apart.  There are many reports that suggest Paula’s mother and sister are feuding and fighting over her personal belongings, but not in the way you may think.

Reading the reports made me think about all the unsolved cases (crime and missing) and the families left behind.  In all the cases I’ve covered, I have watched family members come together, or get ripped apart. The pain runs so deep, they are never able to repair the damage, mainly because of the hurt and loss they feel for their loved one who was murdered, or is missing.

COPS RELEASE SKETCH IN PLAYBOY MODEL MURDER

Investigators in North Miami Florida just released a sketch of a man they believe may be responsible for the murder of Paula Sladewski.  Police say she was thrown in a dumpster, set on fire, and found on January 3, 2010.  Cops say Paula’s body was “burned beyond recognition” and firefighters were called to put out the flames.  Police are trying to figure out if this murder was committed out of anger… passion… or simply to destroy evidence.

Lt. Neal Cuevas with the North Miami Police department told me Paula’s boyfriend, Kevin Klym, reported her missing at 10:40 p.m. on Sunday, January 3, 2010.  Klym said he hadn’t seen his girlfriend since earlier that morning when he was kicked out of Club Space, a Miami nightclub open 24 hours a day.  Lt. Cuevas says Klym told them Paula was too drunk, and he wanted to leave, an argument erupted – and he was kicked out.  Investigators confirmed to me that they know for sure Klym left the club in a taxi and went back to the LaFlora Hotel on Collins Avenue, where he and Paula were staying.  There is not video of Paula ever returning to the hotel.  One of the workers at the hotel told me they have no surveillance video running at the hotel.

 PAULA SLADEWSKI MURDERED

Investigators are putting the pieces together and trying to figure out who would set Paula Sladewski on fire and then throw her in a trash dumpster.

Cops say Paula’s body was “burned beyond recognition” and firefighters were called to put out the flames at a dumpster fire.  Her body was identified a few days later through dental records.  Paula is originally from Michigan, and in 2003 she appeared in a video for Playboy.  At this time, investigators are calling her boyfriend a “person of interest.”

Police know the couple arrived in Miami on New Year’s Eve with friends, they watched Lady GaGa perform, and had plans to say in Miami throughout the weekend.  On January 2, 2009, that Saturday night, the couple went to Club Space – until they got into an argument at 7 a.m. Sunday morning and split up.  That’s when cops say she was last seen.

ENDANGERED MISSING BABY

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

UPDATE: On January 5, 2010, the car belonging to Elizabeth Johnson, Gabriel’s mom, was found in Texas.  Although the vehicle was located, investigators say there was no sign of Gabriel.  The baby was last seen with his mother in San Antonio, Texas between the dates of December 22 – 26, 2009.

Gabriel Johnson missing
Gabriel Johnson missing

BACKGROUND: Gabriel Johnson is only 8-months-old, and has been missing since December 18, 2009.  He was last seen with his mother Elizabeth Johnson.  Police say Johnson missed a custody hearing scheduled on December 28, 2009, and a felony warrant was issued for her arrest for custodial interference.  Johnsons custody rights were revoked, and the Gabriel’s father, Logan McQueary, was awarded full custody.  I spoke with Logan yesterday, and this father’s heart is breaking.  All he wants is to find his child alive, but it is hard for him to remain positive when he was told that his son was dead.  On December 27, 2009, Logan says Johnson sent him a text message saying she killed the baby, and in a phone conversation she allegedly told Logan, “I suffocated him (Gabriel) until he turned blue, put him in a diaper bag, and put him in a dumpster.”  Although this information is quite troubling, investigators have reason to believe Gabriel could still be alive, and the child may have been given to a couple.  Authorities do not want to say why they believe this to be true, but they are working off information that the child is somewhere and needs to be found.

Last week, Elizabeth Johnson was found in Miami, FL, but her car was missing.  Johnson arrested and waived extradition back to Arizona.  She is not cooperating with authorities and will not give up information on Gabriel’s whereabouts.  We need to find this child, if you have any information, please help Logan find his son and call Tempe Police:  (480) 350-8311 or Silent Witness at (480) 948-6377 with any information
