On March 11, 2001, two employees were closing up at a Yoga store in downtown Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Md. Police said the women left the “Lululemon Athletica” store at 9 p.m. and returned at 10:05 p.m. when they realized they had left items behind. At some point when the women re-entered the store, two masked men followed in behind them and brutally attacked the victims.
The next morning around 8 a.m. police say the manager arrived to open the store and found the front door unlocked. She heard faint noises coming from the back and called police. When officers arrived they found the body of one of the women, Jayna Murray, and her co-worker bound. The surviving victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Lululemon is a part of the Bethesda Row community. It’s an active place all day, but especially on the weekends. Right next door to Lululemon is an Apple Store. The night of the attacks and murder a long line of people waited outside Apple awaiting the release of the new iPad II. Police would not say if any witnesses saw or heard anything.
