BRETT SMITH FOUND ALIVE
Great news to report as we launch into the weekend. Investigators say Brett Smith who has been missing since Monday, was found alive a short time ago. The Aiken County Sheriff’s office said Brett was walking down the side of the road when he was spotted. We don’t know where Brett has been for the last five days, or how he got to that part of town, but investigators are working to put the pieces together. I spoke with Investigator Mack earlier this week from Richland County, and she told me Brett went missing earlier this week when he was riding his bike in the Magnolia Hall neighborhood. His bicycle was found at a nearby McDonald’s, but there was no trace of the 12-year-old. An Amber Alert was not issued at the time because it did not meet state requirements, but investigators all along have treated his case with care and importance. Great work to all who helped find this child.

- BRETT SMITH MISSING
It’s been more than 48 hours since Brett Smith was last seen. I just spoke with Investigator Mack with the Richland County Sheriff’s office, and she says they are actively trying to locate this 12-year-old. Authorities say Brett was riding his bike in the Magnolia Hall neighborhood around 1 p.m. when he disappeared. Brett’s bike was found in a McDonald’s parking lot a short time later, but he is nowhere to be found. At this point, an Amber Alert has not been issued because technically, according to authorities, the case doesn’t meet the alert criteria. Investigator Mack did confirm to me that they were able to get surveillance from the McDonald’s earlier today, and there is a film technician trying to enhance the footage to get a glimpse as to what happened on Monday. Hopefully by tomorrow, we will have more information on that. I was also told that Brett’s family thought he wanted to visit extended family in an adjacent county, but those family members say they have not seen or heard from him. If you have any information, please call Crimestoppers: (888) CRIME-SC
