NEWS CONFERENCE PLANNED, MORE ARRESTS IN STATE TROOPERS DEATH

Remembering Trooper Wesley Brown

Remembering Trooper Wesley Brown

A Maryland State Police Trooper was shot and killed Friday morning as he worked part-time, and over the weekend investigators arrested a person of interest in the case.  Authorities also announced a news conference planned for today at 2 p.m. EST.  This is where we will learn more about the shooter, and more arrests made.  Investigators say Trooper Wesley Brown was working off-duty at an Applebee’s in Forestville, Maryland when he was shot multiple times as he stepped outside to make a call.

There is a possibility Trooper Brown may have been killed by a customer who he had to escort out earlier in the night. Investigators have released video of the person of interest, and that person may be charged with his murder.  At this point he has not been publicly identified.  Authorities say Trooper Brown was talking on his cell phone at the time of the incident, and may not have seen the suspect approaching. Cadets were pulled from the Maryland State Police academy and are on the ground right now performing a grid search.  They are set to be there throughout the day, and possibly the weekend.

SILVER ALERT: Register your family member

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

SilverAlertProfileLogo1Just like an Amber Alert is issued for a missing child, a Silver Alert is sent out for a missing elderly person.  It works as an emergency system, decided by law enforcement, to broadcast a statewide alert for missing seniors.  In most cases, the alerts are sent out for persons 60 or older, and most victims are mentally impaired and suffer from dementia.  About 5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s.

This is a great program to protect the senior citizens of our nation who can no longer take care of themselves.  Maryland State police used the system for the first time in November 2009 to help locate an elderly man, and it worked.  The victim was found safely by a BGE worker on a street corner. The alerts are generally displayed on highway billboards and over local television and radio stations. Please consider registering your family member or friend on line, it provides a safe and secure place to store vital medical information that can be easily accessed in case of an emergency.
