Investigators say 24-year-old Frederick Scott is out on bail, but he shouldn’t be.  Scott was mistakenly released after he was arrested and charged with first degree murder.  On March 4, Prince George’s County Police say Scott is responsible for the shooting death of Phillip Watson of Southeast.

On May 5, Scott was arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada and was extradited to Maryland to stand trial.  He was supposed to stay behind bars until his trial with no bail, but due to a “clerical error” made in the county courts, Scott was released.  Police say he posted a $75,000 bail and hasn’t been seen since.

The State’s Attorney for Wicomico County issued a release today stating, “The Grand Jury for Wicomico County indicted Thomas Leggs, Jr. for the First Degree Murder of Sarah Foxwell, in addition to First Degree Burglary, Kidnapping, Kidnapping of a Child, and First and Second Degree Sexual Offense.”  Leggs is currently being held without bond.  According to the press release, “The State will file Notice of Intent to Seek the Death Penalty and the Notice of Intent To Seek Life Without Possibility of Parole before the end of February.”

I spoke with Sheriff Lewis of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s office earlier this afternoon and asked him about other victims of Leggs. Sheriff Lewis says, ”We have had many people call us with their own personal relationships or run ins with Thomas Leggs.  We believe Thomas legs committed this alone.  We will be seeking the death penalty.  All he has to do is request a change of venue (regarding a courtroom), and a judge cannot deny him of that.”

National Manhunt

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

The U.S. Marshals are working feverishly to track down a man wanted for allegedly murdering his family members on Thanksgiving Day.  The Palm Beach County State’s Attorney’s office issued arrest warrants for Paul Michael Merhige charging him with 4 counts of First Degree Murder, and 2 counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.

Investigators say Merhige fled in a blue 4-door Toyota Camry, FL license plate: W42-7JT.  The car has a rear spoiler and no has no tint.

Police say this horrific event played out Thanksgiving night in Jupiter, Florida just after dinner.  Cops say invited guest, Paul Michael Merhige, 35, left the house, came back at 10 p.m. with a handgun, and killed his own family members.  Cops say 17 people were inside the house when Merhige returned, and sadly some of the victims include his innocent 6-year-old cousin who was sleeping in her bed.  Police say Merhige’s also allegedly shot and killed his twin 33-year-old sisters, Carla Merhige and Lisa Knight, and Raymonde Joseph, 76, believed to be Merhige’s aunt.  Investigators have learned through a series of interviews that Merhige does have on-going resentment towards some of the family members.  Police say Lisa’s husband, Patrick Knight, Merhige’s brother-in-law, and a cousin, Clifford Gebara, were also shot, but thankfully they survived.
