Raleigh Police are taking over the investigation to find missing mother, Laura Ackerson.  Authorities say Laura, 27, went missing last Friday when she did not show up to pick up her children from their father.  Kinston Police in North Carolina confirm a friend and business associate of Laura’s initially reported her missing and they were handling the investigation until her Ford Focus was found in Raleigh on Wednesday.

Laura was in Raleigh for business last week when she was supposed to see her children who live with their dad.  She never showed for the meeting in Wilson at a gas station.  Authorities say when she did not come into work on Monday, that’s when her friend reported her missing.  Laura attends church in Kinston and they are praying daily for her safe return.

If you have any information on this case, please contact Raleigh Crimestoppers: (919) 834-HELP

EVENTS PLANNED TO CELEBRATE KYRON HORMAN’S BIRTHDAY

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Bring Kyron Home

Kyron Horman is 8-years-old today, and sadly his family hasn’t seen him in more than three months.  The child vanished on June 4 from the Skyline elementary school in Portland, Oregon and hasn’t been seen since.  A fundraiser recently with the Godfather’s Pizza restaurants raised money to help aide the search efforts, and another fundraiser is planned for this Sunday at the Family Fun Center and Bullwinkle’s Restaurant.  The goal of the event is not only to raise money for the efforts to find Kyron, but also to celebrate his birthday.  The cost for a wristband is only $15 which includes unlimited rides and games.

Tonight Kyron’s family, along with members of the community, are holding a balloon release at 7 p.m.  People will gather at the West main Church in Medford.

To keep up-to-date with everything surrounding this case, please become a fan of the “Missing Kyron Horman” Facebook page.  Volunteers help to keep the page updated with the latest information.

No one has been charged with Kyron’s disappearance.  If you have any information, please contact the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office: 503-261-2847

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: Mother Abandoned Her Family

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Tiffany Nelle TehanTiffany Tehan caught the national spotlight when the missing mom vanished last weekend.  Hundreds of volunteers flocked to the area where her truck was found, her family started a website and prayer groups were formed.  No one could begin to understand how a beautiful mother of a one year old, and a woman who’s been married for over eight years could just vanish.  Everyone wondered if she was another victim of an abduction.

Police told me her vehicle was found in a nearby park with a flat tire and her keys were locked inside.  Then, in an odd twist, earlier this week investigators released surveillance shots of Tiffany with an unknown man.  They had been seen on a few occasions at a local convenience store spending time together.  But who was the man?  Tiffany’s family didn’t know and neither did her friends.  An investigation identified the mystery man as Tre B. Hutcherson, a married man himself, and it turned out that he had been missing as well.

BREAKING NEWS: MISSING OHIO MOM FOUND

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

10:00 a.m. – Information is coming in at this hour that missing Ohio mom Tiffany Tehan was found alive in Miami, Florida.  Police say it appears she was romantically involved with mystery man, Tre Hutcherson and she wanted to start over.  On a personal note, it is a shame Tiffany wasted so many resources and national air time on her ‘case,’ especially when there are other missing moms like Susan Powell, Lisa Stebic and Stacey Peterson (to name a few) that have been forgotten.

BACKGROUND: Police in Xenia, Ohio are still searching for Tiffany Tehan who vanished over the weekend. Earlier this week investigators released surveillance video photos of a mystery man with Tiffany two weeks ago. That man has been identified as Tre B. Hutcherson, 42, who authorities say has also been missing for days.

Captain Scott Anger of the Xenia Police told me Tiffany’s family does not know who Tre B. Hutcherson is, and they have never met him. Police say Hutcherson is known to drive a red Volkswagen Beetle, and sometimes a German Shepherd will travel with him in the front seat.

Police say Christopher Kyser Miree was shot in his head and left for dead on Friday.  Investigators say on April 16, 2010, around 11:30 p.m. they received a call for a medical emergency.  When authorities arrived at 4 Macy Place they found Christopher lying in blood.  He was rushed to USA Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Christopher was the president of Vanderbilt’s chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering.  He was working at Chevron Corporation in Mobile, Alabama when he was killed.   Christopher’s funeral will be held today, 3 p.m. at the Independent Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

Christopher’s brother Harry wrote a blog post on Sunday about his family member:

Dear Friends,

Please accept this letter from the bottom of my heart as I don’t yet have the strength to return your loving phone calls and heartfelt messages.

I’ve been staring at this blank page for three hours now. My hands are still trembling uncontrollably. There’s just good no way to share with you the details of my worst nightmare.

Police in Xenia, Ohio are searching for a mom who went missing over the weekend.  She was supposed to attend a cookout around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday with her husband, daughter and friends.  Tiffany’s husband, David Tehan, called police around 9 p.m. when she didn’t come home.  Police say Tiffany left her home early Saturday morning to attend garage and consignment sales, and at some point she got off course.  She was last seen at The Greene Shopping Center in Beavercreek around 11 a.m.   Police say Tiffany’s Ford Explorer was found early Sunday morning at a skate park off Stroop Road in Xenia.  The vehicle had a flat tire, and her keys were locked inside.  Tiffany’s dad, Chuck Tabor, told me, “This is one giant jigsaw puzzle, and every piece, every little piece counts, I think it is important to keep that going too.”

Josh Powell attends wife’s vigil

Susan Powell Missing

Susan Powell Missing

Last night, in the pouring rain, Josh Powell who is considered a person of interest in his wife Susan Powell’s disappearance attended a prayer vigil with his 4-year-old child.  About 60 friends and family were in attendance outside a church in Puyallup, Washington.  Reports say he spoke to his wife’s sister briefly, and gave her a hug, and agreed to speak with her later.

BACKGROUND: Police would like to question Josh Powell again, and since naming him a person of interest, they have requested all news footage pertaining to Josh Powell, specifically the interviews he gave with local stations after his wife went missing.  Authorities sent subpoenas on Friday to all Salt Lake City television stations, but will not say what they are hoping to find in the interviews.  Cops are looking to collect as much physical evidence as possible, and to process what they gather through the crime lab.  Assistant Chief Black says Josh Powell is considered a person of interest, and earlier this week, with his attorney, Josh did submit to a DNA sample.  Assistant Chief Black told me Josh answered a few general questions about his wife, but he would not answer any detailed questions about Susan (i.e. any enemies she may have had, answers about their personal relationship, etc).  Josh’s position to the media is that he wants to find his wife, and investigators working the case want to find her too, but Assistant Chief Black says without answers to many questions they have for Josh, and having a working partnership with him, “it really hinders finding her in a timely manner.”

Idea for the holidays….

In the spirit of giving this Christmas and Holiday season, I pose an idea for your gift giving needs.  Maybe there are one or two people you are having a really hard time buying for, and you are spending a lot of time and energy in search of the perfect ‘material’ gift.  Maybe consider making a donation in their name to their favorite charity, church or cause.  If the person you are buying for doesn’t have a preference, or you cannot think of one, I have a list of fantastic organizations that help victims on my resource page.  Please remember, many of these organizations function on folks donating their time to make the programs run.  Many times they are doing fundraisers, or trying to seek money from grants and government funding.  It’s just an idea, and remember, you don’t have to do it for every single gift, maybe consider starting a new tradition, and replace a few this season.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
