Investigators say Michelle Le vanished from the Kaiser Hayward Medical Center in California on May 27. She walked outside to her car, and never came back. Based on evidence found, police fear she is a victim of homicide. This week, authorities closed in on a possible suspect and made an arrest. Lt. Keener, with the Hayward Police department, said Giselle Esteban, former high school and college roommate is charged with Michelle’s murder. Michelle’s body has not been found. Keener indicated various pieces of evidence like cell phone records, surveillance video and DNA led them to Esteban’s doorstep. The suspect was arrested early Wednesday morning and has not spoke about the case to police. Kenner said Michelle and Esteban may have had some sort of fallen out, but police do not have a concrete motive for the killing. Police say they served a search warrant on Esteban’s property on May 29 then again on September 7.
Esteban was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, but police confirm, due to her pregnancy and a doctor’s appointment, the arraignment will be postponed.
Investigators say Lauren Spierer was last seen at 4:30 a.m. and was in the Bloomington, Indiana area near the corner of 11th Street and College Avenue on June 3. Since then, hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement officials have donated their time to help find the missing student. Now, 61 days into the investigation, authorities are turning their focus to an area landfill.
The site is 55 miles from where Lauren was last seen, and it could hold evidence or clues to where she could be. It is unclear at this point when the search will begin. Peg Mulloy, Republic Services spokesperson said they have had, “discussions with the FBI and Bloomington police regarding the Sycamore Ridge Landfill.” Mulloy said out of the 200 landfills they oversee, this would not be the first time they’ve corporate with law enforcement on the recovery of a body or evidence. Republic Services also opened up another site to find a missing child known as Baby Gabrielle.
Madeline Morris has been searching for her missing son for nearly three years. Montgomery County Police say, 37, went missing from Dickerson, Maryland on July 30, 2007. He was last seen near his home at the 2400 block of White’s Ferry Road standing at the end of the driveway.
At the time he vanished, John shared his residence with his boyfriend and police say his vehicle and belongings were left behind when he went missing. In a new press release, Montgomery County Police say, “Extensive investigative techniques have been used during this multi-year investigation to try to gain information about what may have happened to Morris. No evidence has been developed to confirm whether or not Morris remains alive. The family believes that he would not have stayed away this long without making contact with his family. His family also believes that he would not intentionally have left and abandoned his dog. At this stage of the investigation, foul play is suspected.”
UPDATE: Investigators in Baltimore, Md. confirm they have found the body of missing N.C. student Phylicia Barnes. Phylicia’s body and another unidentified male body was located Wednesday floating in the Sesquehanna River. The cause of death has yet to be determined. Stay tuned as more develops in this tragic case…
BACKGROUND: Phylicia’s North Carolina high school is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the teen’s whereabouts. She was an honor student at her school before she disappeared in Baltimore while visiting her sister over Christmas. Authorities are planning another large scale search to find the missing teen.
Five facts about this case:
Phylicia Barnes (missing)
1) Phylicia Barnes, 16, disappeared on the afternoon of Dec. 28 from a Northwest Baltimore apartment.
2) The FBI has joined the case to help find her, and investigators are leaning toward foul play.
3) Authorities focused their search efforts earlier in the week on Leakin Park. Unfortunately, no clues from that search have led them to Phylicia. More than three dozen locations have been searched.
Madeline Morris has been searching for her missing son for more than three years, and recently the case received added attention when a $1,000 reward was announced to help find her son. Montgomery County Police say John Morris, 37, went missing from Dickerson, Maryland on July 30, 2007. He was last seen near his home at the 2400 block of White’s Ferry Road standing at the end of the driveway. At the time, John shared his residence with his boyfriend, and police say his vehicle and belongings were left behind when he went missing.
Joran Van Der Sloot being extradited this morning to Peru to face murder charges, and in a shocking twist, it’s not for the Natalee Holloway case. Five years to the date that Natalee disappeared, another young woman in another country was murdered. Investigators in Peru have named Van Der Sloot the only suspect, and believe he could be her killer.
Stephany Flores’ body was found in a hotel room casino in Peru. The room was in Van Der Sloot’s name. Investigators say the room was covered in blood, and it appears the victim was beaten, stabbed, and her neck was broken. The two were seen meeting and leaving the casino floor together, and around 5 a.m. on May 30, 2010, they entered room #309.
More than 200 brand new photoswere finally released by the NYPD this week in the Rodney Alcala serial killer case. Investigators are hoping to identify all of the people in the photos. Authorities in California released an initial stash of pictures last month to the public out of whichmore than 20 women have been identified and are said to be doing well. At that time, another batch was sent off to the NYPD cold-case squad, but wasnot immediately made public.
All of the photos depict women, girls and young boys. Along with being on death row for five murders, police say Alcala is a suspect in two other cold-case killings in New York. Cornelia Crilley, 23, was raped and strangled in 1971, and her case was never solved. Also, Ellen Jane Hover, 23, disappeared in 1977. Her bones were found in a grave a short time later. Alcala may have been the last person to see her alive.

“Have police said anything about investigating Antoinette’s sister in this case?
Mario was HER boyfriend. It was her house. Can’t believe she didn’t know what
was going down. Let’s get her charged with conspiracy and her kids put in a safe
place, too.”
RESPONSE:
Hi Abbie - This is Michelle Sigona, thank you for taking the time to write in. I hope you and your family had a nice Thanksgiving. You pose a very good question about Antoinette’s sister… and I can tell you based on my
conversations with investigators on this case, they say Brenda Davis (Antoinette’s sister) is in full corporation with the investigation. At this point, they do not believe she is involved (of course, things are always subject to change), but as of now, she will not be charged and was not aware of what was allegedly taking place in the home that she held the lease on.
Michelle Sigona is a crime fighting, victims advocate extraordinaire, but for Michelle -- the good fight doesn't stop there. In her spare time, she is a volunteer firefighter -- and now, she is tackling the issues and cases that mean the most to her....
