Susan Powell Missing

Susan Powell’s family isn’t going to let the public forget about their daughter’s case.  A billboard for the missing mom is now standing tall along route 161 in Washington State.  Susan’s parents, Chuck and Judy Cox, want to put their daughter back in the hearts of everyone.  This billboard is near the Cox’s home in Puyallup, Washington, the same place her husband moved with their two small children not long after Susan went missing.  The Cox family has plans to put another billboard up in the Salt Lake City area next week.

About two months ago, human remains were found off a beaten path in Idaho.  The location where the body was recovered is a little less than four hours away from where missing mom Susan was last seen.  It’s been more than six months since Susan vanished from her home in Utah.  Although the case has faded fast from the spotlight, it is still personally close to my heart and mind.  I keep in touch with Capt. McLaughlin from the West Valley City Police Department, and he told me at the time they were looking into the possibility that the remains could be Susan, but investigators in Idaho confirm that they are those of another woman who went missing three years ago.

Silver Alert Program for Senior Citizens

Just like an Amber Alert is issued for a missing child, a Silver Alert is sent out for a missing elderly person.  It works as an emergency system, decided by law enforcement, to broadcast a statewide alert for missing seniors.  In most cases, the alerts are sent out for persons 60 or older, and most victims are mentally impaired and suffer from dementia.  About 5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s.

This is a great program to protect the senior citizens of our nation who can no longer take care of themselves.  Maryland State police used the system for the first time last month to help locate an elderly man, and it worked.  The victim was found safely by a BGE worker on a street corner. The alerts are generally displayed on highway billboards and over local television and radio stations. Please consider registering your family member or friend on line, it provides a safe and secure place to store vital medical information that can be easily accessed  in case of an emergency.
