Friday, March 18th, 2011

(This is YouTube video of the murder victim, Jayna Murray, 30, bungee jumping on her 30th birthday in December 2010)

UPDATE:  A surprising twist in a horrific crime at the Lululemon Athletica in Bethesda, Md.  Police have arrested the victim’s co-worker, Brittany Norwood, 27, for the brutal murder of Jayna Murray.  Investigators said Norwood originally claimed to be a victim herself, telling authorities that she and her deceased co-worker were attacked and sexually assaulted by two unknown men.  Over the last seven days, police found several holes in her story and eventually the evidence against Norwood stacked up to an arrest on Friday.  Norwood is expected to have her first court appearance Saturday in a Montgomery County courtroom.  Tonight, the Bethesda community will rest peacefully, but will continue to mourn the loss of a beautiful soul.

On March 11, 2001, two employees were closing up at a Yoga store in downtown Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Md. Police said the women left the “Lululemon Athletica” store at 9 p.m. and returned at 10:05 p.m. when they realized they had left items behind. At some point when the women re-entered the store, two masked men followed in behind them and brutally attacked the victims.

Bethany Storro (victim)

Bethany Storro (victim)

Bethany Storro was walking down the street in Vancouver, Washington, getting ready to head into a Starbucks.  She was celebrating her new job and enjoying life when she was viciously attacked with acid.  Police say an unknown African American woman walked up to Bethany and uttered the words: “Hey pretty girl, do you want to drink this?”  The stranger then threw the contents inside the cup on Bethany’s face.  Investigators believe the contents were some sort of acid.

The pain was agonizing as she fell to the ground screaming for dear life.  The skin was burning off her face and parts of her clothes were disintegrating.  Thursday, with her parents at her side, Bethany spoke out for the first time about the incident.  She said she will work on forgiving her attacker.

Bethany was released from the hospital earlier this week and Vancouver’s Anytime Fitness announced a fundraiser to be held Friday to help ease some of the financial burden.  Bethany is a member at the facility that will host a self-defense class for women from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.  You can join the class for $20 and all of the proceeds will go to a fund.  Bethany’s co-workers at the Safeway where she is employed started an additional fund at Riverview Community Bank branches throughout Oregon and Washington.

JUAN “FRANCISCO” ORELLANA

JUAN “FRANCISCO” ORELLANA

March 16, 2010 was a life changing day for a woman in Virginia we will call “Melanie.” Investigators from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home in Waldorf, Maryland to assist a Hispanic female who was gang raped. When they arrived at the scene, they found a distraught woman who had been attacked.

Through the investigation, police discovered that Melanie went out earlier in the night to a place called “Fast Eddie’s” nightclub in Virginia. Investigator Jack Austin said she met and exchanged numbers with a man who called himself “Francisco.” When the nightclub closed, Melanie didn’t have a ride home, and Francisco, later identified as Lionicio Argueta, said he would take her home. Investigator Austin says when Melanie got in his vehicle there were several other Hispanic males in the back seats. She knew there was a problem when she heard Argueta on the phone saying something to the effect that he had one he was bringing down to the house.

A fun night out turned into a nightmare when she was taken inside the house off Country Lane. Once inside, Investigator Austin says an unknown Hispanic male later identified as Jose Maria Echebarria told her to strip down naked or she would be killed.

Melanie, scared to death, complied and was forced to stand naked surrounded by men she didn’t know. Austin says she was ordered to have sex with the men there, and if she didn’t they would kill her. Echebarria allegedly ordered her to perform oral and vaginal sex with him, and investigators say as this was happening the men were standing around throwing up their gang signs and taunting her.
