Investigators say they’ve made an arrest in the murder of Jorelys Rivera. It is believed the suspect lives or works within the apartment complex… more to come.
BACKGROUND: Jorelys Rivera, 7, was outside playing with her friends on Friday, Dec. 2 when she vanished. Police say Jorelys was on the playground at the River Ridge at Canton Apartment complex when someone abducted, beat, sexually assaulted and murdered the child. An intense search took place throughout the weekend, but there were no clues that led to Jorelys.
On Monday, Dec. 5, authorities removed a trash dumpster on the property and hauled it to a nearby open field. They sifted through the garbage until they reached the bottom of the container. It was there that Jorelys body was discovered.
An official cause of death has determined Jorelys died from blunt force trauma and stab wounds. She was killed within two hours of her abduction. Authorities continue to set up road blocks in the area, stopping every car that enters and exits the complex. They’ve also been going from door-to-door interviewing residents. The River Ridge At Canton has 356 apartments on site and it’s possible someone saw something last Friday. Jorelys was last seen around 5 p.m. Grief counselors remain on site at her elementary school to help classmates deal with this tragic loss.

The Special Agent-In-Charge of the Boston Division of the FBI, Richard DesLauriers, and the United States Marshal for the District of Massachusetts, John Gibbons, are releasing the following statement relating to the arrest of James J. Bulger and Catherine Greig:
There have been news reports alleging that the tip that eventually led to the arrest of James J. “Whitey” Bulger was initially given a low priority by the FBI. Those reports are false. The FBI Supervisory Special Agent responsible for the Bulger Task Force was the first to review the tip. He then consulted with other members of the task force. Together, they recognized that certain information appeared to be credible and promising. Immediately thereafter, the Boston FBI office requested the Los Angeles FBI office to initiate surveillance at the targeted location. Hours later, less than 24 hours after the supervisory agent first reviewed the tip, Mr. Bulger and Ms. Greig were arrested.
The FBI task force that searched for Mr. Bulger was composed of personnel from the United States Marshals Service, Massachusetts Department of Corrections, Massachusetts State Police, and FBI.
ARREST:After a large publicity push earlier this week, we can confirm FBI Agents in Boston says a tipster came forward with information that led to the arrest of Whitey Bulger and his longtime girlfriend, Cahterine Greig. Both were taken down in Santa Monica, CA. Agents remained in Bulger’s home overnight searching and collecting evidence… More to come…
BACKGROUND: PSA’s will launch Tuesday in 14 select cities where Bulger and Greig are known to have ties. The goal of the PSA is to release information about Greig and to hopefully engage a neighbor, hair-stylist, doctor, dentist or friend who may have information.
Supervisory Special Agent Richard Teahan, Bulger Boston Taskforce leader says, “We’re taking the next logical step and focusing on Greig as part of a unique initiative.” Teahan goes on to say that Greig has certain characteristics that are recognizable.
The FBI released a list below:
She loves dogs and all kinds of animals.
She is likely to have well-kept teeth because she previously worked as a dental hygienist.

Montgomery County Police’s Cold Case unit has been busy closing cases. For the second time this week they have made an arrest and closed two separate cases for rapes on women back in the 1980’s. The first was earlier this week when detectives announced the arrest of Hubert Allan Marlin, 53, for a rape he allegedly committed near Montgomery Mall in October 1984.
The second arrest was announced yesterday afternoon from a case that occurred on April 20, 1981 in the 17000 block of King James Way in Gaithersburg. This is a case where a suspect broke into the victim’s home and raped her at knifepoint.
An extensive investigation took place over the last 29 years. The case was re-opened in February 2010 when physical evidence was submitted for forensic examination. Based on the findings, a DNA profile was created. A match was made in the California Convicted Offenders database.
