U.S. Marshals are still on the hunt for a dangerous prison escapee and his fiancée, who is also his first cousin.  Investigators are aggressively tracking John McCluskey, 45, and Casslyn Welsh, 44 as tips pour in from across the country with sightings of the couple.  When I spoke to Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Rich Tracey this morning, he wanted the public to know that as the teams investigate leads, they do not leave one specific area for another. “We have not shifted, we’ve expanded, and we did not leave Montana and go to Arkansas.  We are simply expanding this investigation.  We are adding resources.”  The U.S. Marshals have the ability to follow up with leads anywhere in the country very quickly, and alerts have been sent out to the borders as well.  Tracey adds, “These folks are leaving devastation in their wake, it’s time for this to come to a close.”

Sylar Newton mysteriously vanished out of his sleeping bag on July 25th at the Beaver Creek Campgrounds in Arizona. The area is about an hour south of Flagstaff. Since then, authorities from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office have poured more than 4,000 man hours into finding the child. Deputies have received additional help from the FBI and forensic specialists, and this is a 24/7 operation. Officials announced today that the case is no longer a missing person investigation, but similar to the Kyron Horman case out of Oregon, it is now an official criminal investigation. Unlike Kyron’s case, authorities have come out publicly and stated that they don’t believe Sylar wandered away from the campground, and they presume he is dead.

UPDATEJust a few hours ago U.S. Marshals closed in on Tracy Province after someone from the public called in a tip… McCluskey and Welch are still wanted… Stay tuned for more information…

A case involving two dangerous convicted murderers on the run heated up over the weekend.  The convicted murderers escaped from a medium security prison in Arizona 10 days ago, and investigators say they may now be connected to two murders in New Mexico.  John McCluskey, 45, Tracy Province, 42, and Daniel Renwick, 36, broke out of a medium-security facility on July 30th.  Authorities say McCluskey’s fiancée Casslyn Welch tossed wire cutters over the security fence to make the break out a breeze.  An official who is affiliated with the facility, and who does not wish to be identified, told me the escapees made their exit by cutting a hole through a fence and helping each other along. Authorities captured Renwick only two days after the breakout when he allegedly shot at police in Colorado.  Renwick was serving a 22-year sentence for second degree murder.  McCluskey, Province and Welch have been on the lam ever since.

ARIZONA: TWO TODDLER’S MISSING (update)

Emmett Trapp MISSING

Emmett Trapp MISSING

UPDATE: Sadly, Emmett’s body was found a short time ago about one mile away from his home.  Investigators have the area marked off and have not released his cause of death.  More to come on this case…

The search continues for two missing toddlers in Arizona.  Investigators say Emmett Trapp vanished on Monday night from his home in Dewey, and Sylar Newton disappeared from a campsite near Flagstaff on July 25, 2010.  The location of Emmett’s disappearance is a little over an hour from where Sylar went missing.  I spoke with investigators and it appears at this point the cases are not connected, but there are many similarities.

Case similarities:

•  Both Sylar and Emmett were last seen wearing diapers and both are believed to be wandering in their bare feet

•  Both children were discovered missing after their mothers and custodial mothers woke up to find them gone

•  The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is searching and investigating both cases

•  Both toddlers went missing in very rural areasThe family dog wandered off with Emmett when he disappeared, but later returned without the child.

Three dangerous convicted murderers escaped from a medium security prison on Friday in Arizona.  An official who is affiliated with the facility, and who wishes not to be identified, told me the escapees made their exit around 9 p.m. by cutting a hole through a fence.  Once out in the open, they allegedly hijacked an 18-wheeler and landed somewhere in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Investigators caught up with one of the suspects Sunday when an officer in Rifle, Colorado recognized the Chevrolet Blazer and attempted to pull it over.  Authorities said the driver, Daniel Renwick, 36, was behind the wheel and allegedly shot at the officer.  According to investigators, the officer rammed his vehicle and that’s when Renwick was apprehended, handcuffed and hauled away.  Renwick could face additional charges in Colorado before his extradition back to Arizona.

The other two escapees are still on the run and could be anywhere.  Authorities are asking the public for any information on the whereabouts of Tracy Province, 42, and John McCluskey, 45.  Province was serving a life sentence for murder, and McCluskey was serving 15 years for attempted murder.  Authorities believe they could be traveling with McCluskey’s fiancé, Casslyn Welch, 44, and they are armed and dangerous.

Investigators still searching landfill

Investigators in San Antonio, Texas are still searching a landfill for baby Gabriel Johnson.  They recently announced that the search for Gabriel is not only a missing persons investigation, but is also a homicide investigation. Investigators are digging through nearly 45 feet of garbage in search of baby Gabriel.  Officials estimate the task will take a total of six days.

Gabriel was last seen with his mother, Elizabeth Johnson,  on or near December 18, 2009. Police say Johnson missed a December 28, 2009 custody hearing, and a felony warrant was issued for her arrest for custodial interference.  Johnson’s custody rights were revoked, and Gabriel’s father, Logan McQueary, was awarded full custody.

Early in the case, I spoke with Logan, and it is apparent that this father’s heart is breaking.  Last week, over text message, Logan told me he was retracing Elizabeth’s steps, and was in Arizona posting fliers of his missing son.  All Logan wants is to find his child alive, but it is hard for him to remain positive when he has been told that Gabriel is dead.

ENDANGERED MISSING BABY

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

UPDATE: On January 5, 2010, the car belonging to Elizabeth Johnson, Gabriel’s mom, was found in Texas.  Although the vehicle was located, investigators say there was no sign of Gabriel.  The baby was last seen with his mother in San Antonio, Texas between the dates of December 22 – 26, 2009.

BACKGROUND: Gabriel Johnson is only 8-months-old, and has been missing since December 18, 2009.  He was last seen with his mother Elizabeth Johnson.  Police say Johnson missed a custody hearing scheduled on December 28, 2009, and a felony warrant was issued for her arrest for custodial interference.  Johnsons custody rights were revoked, and the Gabriel’s father, Logan McQueary, was awarded full custody.  I spoke with Logan yesterday, and this father’s heart is breaking.  All he wants is to find his child alive, but it is hard for him to remain positive when he was told that his son was dead.  On December 27, 2009, Logan says Johnson sent him a text message saying she killed the baby, and in a phone conversation she allegedly told Logan, “I suffocated him (Gabriel) until he turned blue, put him in a diaper bag, and put him in a dumpster.”  Although this information is quite troubling, investigators have reason to believe Gabriel could still be alive, and the child may have been given to a couple.  Authorities do not want to say why they believe this to be true, but they are working off information that the child is somewhere and needs to be found.

Last week, Elizabeth Johnson was found in Miami, FL, but her car was missing.  Johnson arrested and waived extradition back to Arizona.  She is not cooperating with authorities and will not give up information on Gabriel’s whereabouts.  We need to find this child, if you have any information, please help Logan find his son and call Tempe Police:  (480) 350-8311 or Silent Witness at (480) 948-6377 with any information

CHRISTMAS MIRACLE RECOVERY

Friday, December 25th, 2009
Natalie Rose Flores - MISSING

Natalie Rose Flores - MISSING

UPDATE:  Great news this holiday, authorities say Officer Mike Burns spotted the abductors vehicle and chased the driver down.  The officer alerted his department that he was onto the suspect, and spike strips were put across the roadway.  When the suspect drove over the strips, his tires went flat.  He bailed out of his truck and ran on foot.  Officers caught up to him about a block away, arrested the man, and he’s being held on charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault on a police officer, and felony pursuit.  Natalie was found alive, and well, and returned to her family this holiday.  Normally in stranger abduction cases, you don’t see this kind of happy ending — and it’s even better that this miracle occurred on Christmas.  Great work Officer Burns — Thank you for all you’ve done.
