Investigators in Mobile, Alabama are actively searching for two small children who may have been missing since early last summer. Authorities believe Jonathan DeBlase, 3, and his older sister, Natalie, 4, were murdered by their father and stepmother, but no one reported them missing until November 19.
Heather Leavell-Keaton, the children’s step-mother, was tracked down early last week and arrested in Louisville, Kentucky. She currently faces two counts of willful abuse and neglect of a child. John Joseph DeBlase, 27, was arrested on Friday and charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse and two counts of abuse of a corpse. His bond was set today for $206,000 and he will have another hearing on Wednesday.
Investigators believe the husband and wife are responsible for the children’s deaths based on information DeBlase gave to them, including the spot where the children are buried. Authorities are not only looking in that location, but also various locations along Mississippi roadways to see if they can locate the children.

- Amy Bishop mugshot
Mass chaos erupts on a college campus as a gunman opens fire. Professors and students are scrambling, bystanders are taking cover and no one knows where the bullets will land. This was the scene on February 12, 2010 at the University of Alabama Huntsville campus. One of their professors allegedly brought a gun to the school and started taking shots. Investigators learned the lone gunman was actually a Harvard University graduate and one of their own.
Her name is Amy Bishop.
I can’t recall in recent history a woman opening fire on a campus, much less a professor. I spoke with Sgt. Mark Roberts from the Huntsville Police Department and he told me there was a faculty meeting, and just before 4 p.m. gunfire erupted inside the conference room. Police were called, and responded to the building within minutes. They didn’t know at the time where the alleged shooter, Amy Bishop was hiding, but they eventually found her outside the building and took her into custody. Sgt. Roberts says investigators on the scene did not immediately find the 9 mm gun that was used, but later that night authorities located the weapon on the 2nd floor bathroom inside a garbage can. Amy Bishop did not have a permit for the gun. Sadly, three professors died in the deadly incident, and three others were injured.

Police say Christopher Kyser Miree was shot in his head and left for dead on Friday. Investigators say on April 16, 2010, around 11:30 p.m. they received a call for a medical emergency. When authorities arrived at 4 Macy Place they found Christopher lying in blood. He was rushed to USA Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Christopher was the president of Vanderbilt’s chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. He was working at Chevron Corporation in Mobile, Alabama when he was killed. Christopher’s funeral will be held today, 3 p.m. at the Independent Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama.
Christopher’s brother Harry wrote a blog post on Sunday about his family member:
Dear Friends,
Please accept this letter from the bottom of my heart as I don’t yet have the strength to return your loving phone calls and heartfelt messages.
I’ve been staring at this blank page for three hours now. My hands are still trembling uncontrollably. There’s just good no way to share with you the details of my worst nightmare.

The FBI is trying to track down two men dubbed “Grandpa Bandits.” Agents say one suspect is responsible for six stick-ups and the other is a suspect in 18 robberies across 12 states. So far, “Grandpa Bandit” #1 has struck banks in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Oklahoma, New York, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. The FBI has had tremendous success with their digital billboards, and currently there are 75 of them displayed in those states looking for information. “Grandpa Bandit” # 2 is on the run in Oregon, and his most recent robbery was last week at a branch in Medford. The FBI says his previous five robberies were in Salem, Sherwood, West Linn, and Hillsboro. In one instance, a teller told agents the suspect did show a weapon in his waistband, and did threaten to kill the teller. Most of the incidents take 90 seconds or less. According to a recent crime statistic report for 2009 released by the FBI, there were a total of 5,943 robberies of banks last year with more than $45 million taken from institutions, and the hours of 9 – 11 a.m. were the most popular times to strike.

- Amy Bishop mugshot
As the days progress, we are learning more bizarre details about alleged campus shooter Amy Bishop. I do not recall in recent history a woman opening fire on a campus. Bishop’s history with the law has taken many twists and turns over the years. Police say she shot and killed her brother in 1986, and in 1993 she was questioned by authorities in Massachusetts for sending two bombs to a fellow colleague from Harvard, then in2002 she was charged with assault on a woman at an IHOP. Bishop verbally abused the woman and hit her in the head after the victim took the last booster seat.
Bishop graduated from Northeastern in 1988 with biology degrees, and in 1993 she earned a doctorate in genetics from Harvard University. Friends say she loved to play Dungeons and Dragons with her husband. I spoke with Bishop’s next door neighbor Mrs. Armstrong and she says, “I would never expect her to shoot anyone, she told me the reason she moved here was because she had a better shot at getting tenure.” Mrs. Armstrong also says Amy Bishop, and her husband James Anderson have four children, the youngest is in third grade, and the oldest is 18. Mrs. Armstrong and her family never had any problems with the Bishops, but she did say Bishop gave her the impression she “always had to be right.”
