Theresa Green

It’s been more than 18 years since Tampa Police say Theresa Green was attacked in her home.  Investigators say on January 15, 1994, Theresa was in her house with her two small children.  They lived along W. Lemon Street in Tampa. 

At some point, authorities believe someone entered Theresa’s home and viciously attacked her, stabbing her 42 times.  Theresa’s children are older now, having grown up much of their childhood without their mom.

Investigators in Burbank, Ill. Issued a murder warrant for Arnoldo Jimenez, 30, for murdering his new bride.  Investigators say Jimenez was last seen with his wife on Friday after they arrived in their Burbank condo in the early morning hours of Saturday morning.   Jimenez was last seen driving a 2006 black Maserati.

BACKGROUND: A Chicago area bride was found over the weekend stabbed to death inside a bathtub. According to police, she was still wearing a cocktail dress she had on just hours before at her wedding reception.

Investigators say Estrella Carrera, 26, was last seen walking down the isle then celebrating early Saturday morning with a small group of friends. Authorities believe she is a victim of domestic violence.

Family and friends are speaking out to say no one really knew about the wedding and Estrella called friends the day of to invite them to a party. Her body was found on Sunday after she did not show up to pick up her children.

Police say they are investigating her death as a homicide, but no arrests have been made yet. This appears to be an isolated incident. Investigators were seen searching around the apartment complex for evidence, possibly the murder weapon.

April Kauffman, a radio personality known best for her tireless work to help veterans was murdered in her home three days ago.  Investigators say a worker in her Linwood, New Jersey house called 911 after finding April shot multiple times in her bedroom.  Reports indicate her husband left for work sometime in the 5 a.m. hour and her body was discovered by the worker around 11:30 a.m.  April’s husband, Dr. James Kauffman, is an Endocrinologist and has a practice in Egg Harbor, NJ.

Friday I spoke- with Robert Frolow close friend and fellow service worker to help veterans.  He said he knew April for more than two years and they had, “Common interests, timing on both sides, turned out to be a good marriage.”  Their goal was to bring local healthcare from Delaware to New Jersey so veterans did not have to travel far for checkups and treatments.  Robert recalls one story when April went out and had petitions signed to help with helping to get better treatments for veterans and dialysis centers in their own neighborhood.  The next week, she was going to be in Washington, D.C. for a dinner and was able to hand deliver those petitions to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Eric Shineski.  It took two years to get the ball rolling and the plan to work, and Robert says these new changes they are just starting to see because of April’s efforts. 

The night before the murder, Robert says he spoke with April for about two hours on the phone and she sent him an e-mail around 2:30 a.m.  He says April was at an all time high point in her life, she just received the governor’s award for her volunteer efforts and her weekly radio show was a fantastic platform for her passion to help others.  “All I see was positive.  You could not tell her no,” he said. 

Friday, I also spoke with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, the information they’ve released is limited, but I was told if there was a break in the case – meaning an arrest, then they would update the public this weekend.  Other than that, we would not be hearing any more from them until next week.

Robert says April lived in a big, beautiful home, best described as a palace.  He also says from speaking with close friends, there did not appear to be any forced entry into the house and she did have an alarm, he wasn’t sure about surveillance.  The worker who made the discovery was probably the person who helps with the bird cage room.  He said April was hardly ever home in the morning and the worker thought it was odd to see her car there.  Robert says April had a lot of unique items and jewelry and it was odd that none of it was gone. 

April was also a local business owner, and although Robert said she recently closed a deli, her hair salon  and catering business were still up and running.  She also had a daughter from a previous marriage, and two grandchildren. 

“I feel bad for the veterans, they lost a true advocate,” said Robert.  April was known best for giving rides to veterans to doctor’s appointments and organizing fundraisers for people who were injured and needed money.  According to Press of Atlantic City article, April was described as a Corvette enthusiast who once organized a Corvette caravan last year to honor wounded military personnel.

According to her website, April Kauffman, one of the last quotes she posted:  “Remember to donate blood and give generously.”  A local memorial service is being held in her honor on May 25.

According to the FBI, preliminary reports indicate FBI Top 10 fugitive Adam Mayes shot himself in the head and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.  The two children Mayes abducted were found safe and taken to the hospital for treatment as a precautionary measure.  Agents say the Mississippi Bureau of investigation will process the crime scene were the girls were found.

The FBI announced Wednesday a new addition to the Top 10 Most Wanted.  Agents on the ground in Guntown, Mississippi held a press conference and officially added Adam Mayes, 35, to their elite list.  Mayes is charged with two counts of first degree murder and agents believe he is responsible for the kidnapping of a family from Tennessee.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released new surveillance video of alleged killer and kidnapping suspect, Adam Mayes.  In addition to the images, investigators have also officially charged Adam Maye’s mother and ex-wife for their roles in the kidnapping of four members of the Bain family.  I confirmed with Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Amber Alert is still active to find Alexandria, 12, and Kyliyah, 8.  I also spoke with the local sheriff’s office, they are handling the searches, and their entire team is on the ground in Mississippi following up with leads.   

I also spoke with a clerk at the County Line convenience store in Guntown, Mississippi.  The clerk, who does not wish to be identifed, said she was not the one who helped Mayes on April 30, three days after the Baines family went missing, but another clerk did.  She says Mayes came into the store late afternoon, was calm and purchased a drink.  His hair is short, he was wearing a necklace and a white t-shirt with writing on the front.

Over the weekend two bodies were discovered in Guntown, Mississippi and have since been identified as Jo Ann Bain and Adrienne Bain, 14. According to an affidavit released from Hardeman County, on April 27, 2012, Gary Bain notified authorities his wife and children were missing.  Mayes, according to the court documents, by his own admission, was the last person to see them.  Officials say Mayes rented a trailer in Union County and Theresa Mayes admitted to driving the victims from Hardeman County to Union County.  According to the affidavit, Theresa Mayes admitted to investigators her involvement of the initial confinement of the Bain family. 

Since the bodies were discovered, investigators say Mary Frances Mayes, 65, was charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit especially aggravated kidnapping.  According to a TBI press release, she is being held on $300,000 bond.  Teresa Ann Mayes, 31, is facing the same kidnapping charges and two counts of first degree murder and is being held on a $500,000 bail.

Authorities believe Mayes kidnapped the family on April 27, 2012 from Hardeman County.  It is possible he has changed the younger girls their appearances and could be using the alias Christopher Zachery Wylde or Paco Rodrigrass.  Police believe Mayes is carrying a firearm and should be considered armed and extremely dangerous. He has connections to Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Arizona and Florida. 

Teresa Mayes’ mother, Josie Tate, told the Associated Pressshe thinks the reason for the kidnapping is because Adam Mayes thought the younger girls were his own.  Tate believes this always caused problems in the marriage to his daughter.

An Amber Alert is still active for two Tennessee girls and a man who police believe to be their kidnapper.  Investigators say Adam Mayes kidnapped three sisters and their mother from Tennessee before going on the run.  Over the weekend, two bodies were found in Guntown, Mississippi.  Late Monday night, investigators confirm those bodies to be Jo Ann Bain and her oldest daughter, 14-year-old Adrienne Bain.  Alexandria, 12 and Kyliyah, 8, may still be alive and could be traveling with Mayes.

Smiley said evidence at the scene suggests foul play and this is officially considered a homicide investigation.  The victim has since been identified as Adam Fabian Perez, 48, a groomer from Guatemala.  He may have been involved in an altercation.  The official cause of death is unknown and an autopsy will take place Monday.

Investigators spent Sunday interviewing workers and anyone with access to this area.  I asked Smiley if any new missing persons reports had been filed, and she said no.

It was a warm summer night, August 2009 when Ryan McCall and his friend Michael Harahan, were leaving a birthday party and walking home.  An ordinary night took an abrupt turn when the men were approached by an unknown gunman.  Police say Ryan and Michael never saw what was coming next when out the blue, the gunman began to pistol whip Michael.  Within a matter of seconds, investigators say the gunman turned on Ryan and fatally shoot him.      

Police say Ryan, was entering his senior year at the University of Tampa.  He was a track all star with a bright future.

To try and cope with their loss, Ryan’s family developed a scholarship fund to help future runners.  According to the Ryan McCall website, “McCall, who was a rising athlete and senior at the University of Tampa, was majoring in exercise science. He was a cross country and track runner as well as a coach at Tampa Prep. He was more than an athlete and scholar; he was a positive influence on all that knew him.  Ryan’s Run is a dedication to McCall and the ideals that he believed in. All the proceeds that are raised from the race will go towards a scholarship that will be given to a male and female hillsborough county high school student who share those same principles and work ethic that Ryan practiced. Please come support the Ryan McCall Memorial Fund and take part in the fun to help carry on the name and values of someone who was truly taken too soon.”

One of the biggest clues in this case is a voicemail message.  Investigators believe the killer’s voice was caught on tape when Ryan’s friend was leaving a voicemail message for someone when they were approached.
