Philadelphia Police Stepping Up To The Plate, Catching Fugitives 21st Century Style


One hundred fugitives have been arrested through Philadelphia Police Department’s social media effort.  Philadelphia is on the forefront of utilizing new media and maximizing efforts through YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.  You can always log onto their website and find video, information and links to new cases.

According to a recent release, “On October 1, 2012, a suspect was captured on surveillance video committing an armed robbery in South Philadelphia. A few days later, we received an anonymous tip identifying Erik Barrett as the suspect in that video. With your help, this dangerous individual was taken into custody.”

Philadelphia Police say because of their efforts:

  • 100 criminals arrested
  • 39% chance of arrest*
  • 47,000 Facebook likes
  • 11,000 Twitter followers
  • 2.3 million Youtube views
