The Amber Alert for Aveion Lewis is canceled tonight, and authorities say they are now looking into this case as a death investigation.  Police say they believe Aveion was dead prior to the reported abduction on January 14, 2009.

According to a police press release, “the department has investigated the reported abduction and received varying degrees of cooperation from key persons in the investigation; which lead police to question the validity of information received from some individuals.  As a result, investigators began to focus on the possibility that Brandon Lockett, Aveion’s step-father was not providing accurate details.”

Conflicting statements from the step-father were given to authorities, and at this time, Brandon Lockett is in custody.  No charges have been filed yet, but he is being questioned. Authorities say they have come to this conclusion because of conflicting statements given, and as time went on investigators were advised an abduction did not occur.  Sadly, at this time, police do not know where Aveion’s body could be, but they have expanded the ground search to find the toddler.

BACKGROUND:

Police initially said Aveion was snatched from his home on January 14, 2009 when three men allegedly broke into his apartment, assaulted Aveion’s step-father Brandon Lockett, and abducted the toddler.  Investigators say not only was the child taken, but his 4-year-old sister was tied up and gagged in a corner.  Investigators said early on they believed the suspects could be traveling in an early 1990’s model white SUV, and they collected surveillance from nearby businesses.  The FBI along with local law enforcement have been searching for the child by air, on the ground, and going door-to-door seeking answers.

If you have any information as to the whereabouts of  where Aveion Malik Lewis body could be, please call Roanoke City Police Department at (540) 853-2211 or Virginia State Police at (800) 822-4453.

I am sad and devastasted with the inhumanity of our city .I am friends with the woman who used to babysit these children.Everything never added up right.I am at a loss for words except I know that right now I am positive god is holding this baby boy in his arms right now.I believe the mother had something to do with the disposing of the childs body. Her children had just been returned to her due to prior charges of neglect.Social services failed this child also. The STEPFATHER left his own children unharmed.Polygraph reported that this man had a part of the killing of this child and the mother didnt call for 2 1/2 hours after returnimg home.Long enough to dump his body .Handwriting analysis proved that it was 2 handwritings ,the step fathers and another unknown. He will not speak any more about where the childs body is and wont disclose any info.I am sad hurt and disgusted,If found guilty of the murder of this baby he will be given the death penalty and I think thats to easy for such a heartless hardened man.He needs to rot in prison till he dies and tortured. This was done in my opinon because the mother worked the stepdad didnt like having to take care of this child, he had previous children with her I believe he was angry that the child wasnt his and killed him for anger and the hopes of charity .He probably isnt saying if the Mother had involement to the police because he wants his real children to still have their mother one day But for now social services has taken the kids away and I pray they are NEVER given back.Rip Aveion Malek Lewis.
