Marc Bookal missing
Within the last 24 hours a second anonymous donor gave $5,000 for the safe return of Marc Anthony Bookal. This is on top of an another anonymous donation of $10,000 and Carlie’s Crusade Foundation is offering $1,000, bringing the total to $16,000. Police are asking the public to look around their homes for the boy, and they are also seeking surveillance video from anyone in the southeast section of the city so they can review. Fliers are posted throughout the community, and all police resources are maxed out. I spoke with Sgt. Toomey with the Newburgh Police in New York, and he told me Marc was reported missing by his mother’s boyfriend, Cory Byrd on December 14, 2009 around 1:10 p.m. Byrd told police he went downstairs, the door was open, and Marc was gone. Sgt. Toomey says Byrd told them he thought the child went a few steps away in an adjacent building to visit his aunt, something he did frequently. The toddler has discoloration on the back of his hands from a recent burn injury, and he was last seen wearing a red long sleeved shirt, gray sweatpants, and Nike shoes.
Cory Byrd, Marc’s mother’s 30-year-old boyfriend was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, and is currently being held in the Orange County Jail. There’s a $2,500 bond available to release him, but even if the money is paid, Byrd still faces a parole violation. He is scheduled to appear in court in January 2010 on this case. Today, on Christmas Eve, members of the Carlie’s Crusade Foundation delivered to Marc’s siblings gift cards and cash they collected from caring people so that these children may have a little Xmas at such a grim time in there lives. When events like this happen we, the public, seem to forget about the other children that are still at home. We are all keeping hope and praying for Marc’s safe return.
God please watch over ALL of our children today and everyday.Give us strength to keep making a difference with the programs we teach and help us reach more children this year then we did the last. God bless everyone that helped us bring a smile to the children today.
We have been working behind the scenes almost non-stop since December 14th trying to help the family of Marc Bookal. Over the past few day’s one of our team members ( Bob Clydesdale) has hit every local mall and procured as many gift cards he could for Marc’s three siblings to make them have a little bit of Christmas. We were also able to get on 2 local TV news shows as well as 3 radio stations with our message to get folks to send some funds if they were able. Well our prayers were answered and the Carlie’s Crusade Foundation was able to provide almost $1500.00 in gift cards and cash to Marc’s siblings.
Clyde’s brother in law was murdered by a sexual predator over 30 years ago before 1996 and the Sex Offender Registry Act meaning NO ONE knows of his past sexually related crimes. The predator did his time and now walks the streets in the same town this boy was murdered. Clyde knows first hand what these terrible events can do to siblings and a family. His Mother in law died at a very young age and it has left his wife devastated for the past 30 years. It is because of the events that our staff has endured in their own personal lives that we get up every single day to make a difference. If anyone wants to help us with our life’s mission, please contact us at
