This is probably one of the worst crimes against women cases I have worked on in a very long time. As I go through the accounts of what this victim went through, I want to know how you feel about this case, and I encourage you to comment below. Feel free to offer your feelings, questions, or possible solutions to prevent crimes like this from happening in the future.
BACKGROUND: Earlier this week, in Suitland, Maryland, police say Veronica Deramous tried to steal an unborn baby out of a pregnant mother’s womb by cutting her stomach wide open with a razor blade.
According to Prince George’s County charging documents, the suspect met the victim at a homeless shelter in Washington, D.C. Police say the Deramous promised the woman baby clothes, and persuaded her to go to her house with her to pick up the clothing. I contacted the Queen of Peace, Missionaries of Charity homeless shelter, and they did confirm to me that the victim was staying there about a month before she was allegedly lured away.
Authorities say, the victim was held against her will, bound together with duck tape, and allegedly held at the residence for five days before Deramous attempted to cut her stomach and snatch her fetus. On the sixth day, according to reports the woman was able to break free, but she did almost die. In an attempt to save her unborn child, the victim waited for the suspect to fall asleep. She broke free, and raced upstairs to tell a neighbor that she needed help. Reports say the victim was bleeding, and the insides of her stomach were hanging out. According to arrest documents, Deramous told the victim “You are strong, you can handle what I am going to do to you.” The defendant allegedly turned up the television, gagged the victim, and began to cut her stomach open with a razor blade. According to police reports, “The victim began to moan in pain and the defendant stopped.” Police say the suspect’s 17-year-old son helped to bound the victim, and he is cooperating with police to give a statement, and play-by-play account of what happened since the beginning of this month. Many published reports say the suspect told her boyfriend and friends she was pregnant, and this may have been an act of pure desperation to follow through with what she told everyone, and to have a new baby for Christmas. Right now, Deramous faces attempted first and second degree murder charges, along with assault in the first and second degree and false imprisonment. She has a court date scheduled for sometime in January.
The only positive side to this story is the mother and the baby girl will live. Mom named the little princess “Miracle Sky” and there is a fund set up that you can donate funds or items to help this new family.

I don’t know about you, but this case makes me very angry, and upset. I understand we have the best justice system in the world, and all suspects/defendants are innocent until proven guilty. What are your thoughts? Why do you think someone would be prompted to allegedly commit such a vicious attack on another woman – desperation?

In this world where crimes against women appear to be increasng. It is appalling that now women are commiting crimes against other women. Cutting a fetus out of a Mother, who has been looking forward to bringing new life into a an already confused world, and wanting to have this child maybe be our bright future. Any Mother expecting could be bringing our future into this world, and making it better , through their love and care. This woman, who committed this act, of exteme cruelty, not only against this woman, but against all of us, should be punushed severely, and receive mental health treatment.

Karen you said it very well. I cannot even begin to imagine the emotional, let alone the physical pain Miracle’s mommy went through ~ to save her own and her baby’s life.
I have spent the last 30 years quietly opposed to the death penalty, as I have watched the world go to hell all around me. I cannot sit quietly anymore. Baby killers in California die from old age before the executioners needle ever gets close.
Grown men use baby’s as punching bags, sex toys and act as if they are disposable trash. Now a mother sit’s jailed in No Carolina for providing her 5 year old little angel, to pay off a drug debt. To make matters worse the father of the baby who had some sort of custody for the last 4 years; decided mom needed to step up to the plate and learn to be a mother. Handing this angel over to an alleged ~ pregnant~ drug~ using ~ prostitute. While he went about his business. I can’t wrap my head around a parent doing this.
Drew Peterson with his sick little smile and jokes about his missing wife, now Susan Powel’s husband who claims he took his babies camping in the middle of the freezing night, as his wife chose that night to disappear from her bed. And Caylee Anthony’s grand parent’s continue to sing her mothers praises as she sit’s jailed on charges she murdered this precious 2 year old angel.
In So California, little Emma Barker 18 mos old was found dead along side the freeway 12 hours after her momster reported her kidnapped. Later her momster confessed to accidentally smothering this precious baby after having a fight with her own mother because gma, who worked a full time job said mommy needed to stay with her child rather than her boyfriend.
Little Rene Torres was found dead in his crib, after mommy and her boyfriend called 911 saying her 2 year old son wasn’t breathing. Failed to say he was put to bed wrapped, legs, arms, feet and LE say his mouth in duct tape ~ as a form of discipline, and had been repeatedly for several months. His 2nd birthday was 2 weeks before he died.
Jails have AC in summer, heat in winter, TV, radio, 3 squares a day. All things many of our seniors go without. Convicts living out their time have the rights their victims were deprived.
People no longer care about People. Me, me, me, is all they understand.
